Taking a fast from Jason Garrett

If you took away Garrett, people would just make every thread about Jerry.

Playing the 4-3 with Ware & Spencer at DE, Lissemore & Hatcher at DT, Ernie Sims at WLB, Connor at MLB and Butler at SLB to add more speed to the lineup.

Interesting. So you would do this immediately, to try and plug the leaks for the rest of the season? Or, you would like to see us go 4-3 next year too? If you went 4-3 next year, with Lee and Carter, Church and all back, what would your lineup look like?

That's a good initial list.

I'll add some, using some of yours:

1) Steelers game - what's the game-plan? How do we win?

Pretty much the standard response. Protect the football, cut down on penalties, score TDs in the red zone. Getting off to a decent start wouldn't hurt either.

2) OL - are they all terrible? Can we make the playoffs w/ this bunch? Why are they so bad?

4 of the 5 starters aren't NFL quality and the 5th guy is still developing.

Romo deserves a medal if he carries that group to a playoff game. They're so bad because they lack talent. It's not a mystery. Coach em up only works when there's an NFL caliber foundation to work with. Livings, Costa, Bernadeau and Free lack it. Hiding one of these guys on your starting line might be doable for a while but when 4 are on the field you have a real problem. A crisis, actually.

3) Demarco return - our record and points scored with him in the lineup/are we balance again?

In terms of carries to passing attempts we are. Balanced in this league doesn't mean 50/50 anymore. But our production out of the run game is nearly non-existent with or without Murray. The head coach/play caller still goes into the red zone knowing he has no run game whatsoever to get the tough yards. That's a huge handicap.

4) Where's Miles Austin?

Right over there. In Dez' shadow.

5) Name one veteran, besides Doug Free, who 100% shouldn't be around next year

Phil Costa

6) Draft needs - biggest need vs. value--S, DL, or OL?

Biggest need is a G or C. Best value is to be determined on draft night. Right now I would guess DE or NT might be the best value on the board when we pick. But it's a complete guess right now.

7) Long term who needs replacement - ie, Romo, Ware, Witten

All three but I would put immediate emphasis on Ware because I think we need to find two edge rushers.

8) Do we need a new DC?

No. We need better players up front and reasonable health.

9) Review our recent draft

Not overly impressive the first year. But it's only the first year. I don't care about immediate production.

Claiborne has been solid. His future is bright. Crawford has just kind of been there. He hasn't done much yet. I'm hoping he starts to flash these last three games with increased playing time.

Wilber has been invisible so far. Hanna has played a little and done a little. Matt Johnson, Danny Coale and Caleb McSurdy never got started due to injury.

If you were judging drafts on instant impact this one would be a failure. But let's see where we are a year from now before we throw out any labels for it.

10) If things bounce our way, can we win a division title?

Sure. What team couldn't win their division if things bounce their way?

What if things bounce evenly? Probably not.

Both of your responses RS have been very good and enjoyable to read.

Immediately specially since the next 3 opponents demand a lot of speed on D. Next Year too, it would allow you to have the best athletes on the field most of the time. Otherwise you sit guys like Sims who is a difference maker so far this year.

Lee and Carter would replace Connor and Butler. Hopefully we get an upgrade at SS.

Rats.

I gotta run, but I'll come back and play when I can. How 'bout we start with a thread about how Callahan's ZBS differs from what we've run previously on the OL or why our OTs seem to be struggling so much with pass protection?

Having Murray presenting a run threat to the oppostion will do wonders in curing what ails this OL.

I'm going to say something in here that I said before and didn't go over very well. It probably won't be any more popular now.

I would consider moving Bruce Carter to OLB. In our 3-4, not in a new 4-3.

For two reasons. 1) I think he has the potential to be beastly coming off the edge. I know Broaddus talked about possibly making this move a week or so ago for this same reason. So I'm not alone in thinking his skill set can translate outside in this defense.....and 2) you save the money on Anthony Spencer and can go out and spend that on an OT upgrade in FA.

Then let's say you draft Alec Ogletree. Who could very easily be there and be value when we pick. Your starting LBs next year are Ware, Lee, Ogletree and Carter.

I would really strongly consider doing this.

I see why it could work, but there's no guarantee he would play well there. He hasn't shown much to suggest that he's a legitimate edge pass rusher, and I'd prefer his athleticism in space. That's where he'd be most effective.

If we're going to have a rookie LB, why not put him on the edge. It's a lot simpler than playing in the middle and we would only have one question mark at LB rather than 2.

I'm not listing but I crave more film breakdown, tactical and strategic discussions from guys like couchscout, bluestang, jobberone, etc. That's why I come here and when I'm not seeing football-matters I come less.

Interesting. Dunno if I see him taking on tackles or combos in the running game.

I love the thought of him as a pass rushing OLB though.

This thread is like Garrett. Terrible.

This thread simply demonstrates your limitations :) Take away your fog horn, your pet subject matter, and you got nothin.

If you couldn't mention Garrett's name for an entire week on the forum... positive or negative... can you list 10 things worth talking about?

Here is my list....

1. The game against the Steelers Steelers coach is MUCH better than Garrett
2. The return and impact of Demarco Murray Not as big of an impact if a real coach (not Garrett) was the coach calling the plays
3. The courage and toughness of Dez Bryant Because he hasn't been brainwashed yet to be a mindless robot like Garrett
4. The possibility of the division title Nil with Red as HC
5. The draft needs of this team in 2013 I guess that's up to the new HC next year after Garrett gets fired
6. Will Claiborne be able to play this weekend? It doesn't matter because Garrett will lose the game for us anyway
7. How will Pittsburgh attack our defense, and do they have the weapons to do it effectively? Yes, because they got a real HC who knows how to adjust and exploit their opponents.
8. Do you think Josh Brent should be able to play? No but since Garrett holds no one accountable, he probably would if he wasn't on IR.
9. If we play Washington in Washington for the division title can you imagine anything more fun than that? Garrett getting fired?
10. Meaningful games in December. Fun isn't it? With Garrett as HC - fools gold!

See, ANYTHING can and will be turned into something about Garrett anyway. Just go with it. Resistance is futile.
