I was looking for some other stuff, and came across this quote after the Packers game.

The second-leading receiver never caught a pass, and you wonder how that can happen. Miles Austin drew 82 yards in pass interference penalties on two deep routes. That's how he moved the Cowboys besides his nifty kickoff returns.

"He had his man beat twice," Phillips observed. "They had to interfere with him to keep him from scoring touchdowns."
Sometimes we forget. Maybe our prospects at WR are better than we think sometimes.

That quote is assuming he would have caught those balls.

If we could combine his best attributes with those of Sam Hurd, we might have something.

Yeah, that's his biggest problem. There's no doubt that he has the athleticism for the position. But he does seem to have terrible ball skills.

His butter finger havin sloppy route runnin ace couldnt catch a paper clip with a magnet.

Troy Williamson sure does get open a lot using that speed of his.....

We all remember. If Miles could get 4-9 PI calls a game, I'd say put him in cause we know sure as hell he won't average 4-9 catches a game anytime soon.

I hear what your saying. The guy did pretty good in college, albeit a small college. This is also his "3rd year", so this could be his make it or break it year. He did have his man beat twice in that Packer game and if Romo gets a chance to set his feet and throw, he had the Giant corner beat by at least 8 yards.

You never know, he could be the next good one, lets keep our fingers crossed!! :):)

Noone needs him to with TO, Crayton and Witten on the team.

Except of course when T.O. is hurt, Witten is double teamed and Crayton is dropping passes. In which case it might be nice to have another guy that can get open and hold onto the ball.

I don't think you build teams based on caveat's like that.

Bingo.

You don't build your team around having quality depth at skill positions?

Don't judge him from the Washington game in the rain it was ugly and Witten was dropping passes in that game also.

Did you forget the games we played without TO? That told you everything you need to know about the depth at WR. Hurd doesn’t have the speed and Austin doesn’t have the hands.

We aren't.

We're judging him on his 5 catches in two years, with a 8.4 yard average from a supposed deep threat.

Don't be ********.

You don't build a team based on what would happen if everything went to hell. He showed some ability to get open late in the year when we ran some slants to him while TO was injured. He showed ability to get downfield against the Packers and other teams. That doesn't mean we don't take any opportunity we can to upgrade the position - it just means that maybe the situation at the position isn't so dire, especially when you factor in what the front office thinks of Stanback.

Well isn't it obv the field is hot lava and he doesn't touch it unless its a KR

:hammer:

I think this really sums it up. The guys we have IMO are really very marginal 2's and decent #3 WR'S. When you have WR's who are in their 30's you either have to be developing a guy with the assets to be a #1 Wr or you better be ready to get one in the first round. If you don't want to spend a 1st for them then you better be turning over the later picks as quick as possible(Giving them adequate time of course) to be able to find your #1 guy for the future. I don't think Crayton,Austin or Hurd are that guy. Hurd or Austin will be gone this year IMO. You just have to keep bringing in new blood.
