I know this is not really a new topic, but as I’m watching college football, I can’t help but realize that I was fooled. I see great players that I know we won’t draft.

I was one who thought Will McClay, being a shadow GM, was doing a great job. At least 2022 and before.

Now, it seems obvious that we’ve lost our way from an organizational perspective and our scouting is no longer viable.

Before they had to offset the crazy and McClays team had been somewhere able to resist the stupidity of Stephen and Jerry, but I’ve lost what faith I had.

We had two picks in 2022, one in 2021 and two in 2020.

Pretty crappy overall.

It just feels bad that what was the one thing we all tried to say “but we draft well …” is now an outdated opinion.

Guyton and Beebe have been disappointing after being thrust into starting roles. Kneeland got hurt. Liufau was hype.

Mazi makes the same mistakes over and over again and struggles to develop at all.

Talent acquisition is what it is.

Not filling holes in VFA is just icing on the cake.

I saw a clip of McClay basically begging the previous year's draft class to step up.

It doesn't help when you take a backup tight end in the second round. Again. That could have been a defensive tackle.

Said all along McClay is somewhere around league average. That isn't good enough when ownership is content with merely being on TV.

The Cowboys will do very well picking at the top of the draft. Are you going to complain when they pick Mason Graham, Tet McMillan, or Ashton Jeanty?

I agree with all this, but I also believe it's really difficult to evaluate in the middle of a dumpster fire. You have guys who are often dependent on one another to make plays. After they get washed so many times it has to hurt the confidence. It's a snow ball effect and it wouldn't suprise me to see some guys rebound next year (under better circumstances.)

That said McClay is complicit in this GMs nonsense, and we should hold him accountable as well. Even if a few of these guys do pan out, our drafts have been underwhelming.

Guyton was expected to have a bumpy season. He was the 8th OT taken.

Beebe has been more than fine. He is playing better than our previous center.

The trade down to acquire those two was an excellent move. Both will be much better next season.
