I too was hoping for Donald first then Martin but I'm glad we got Martin. I did not want Shazier to become a Cowboy.

I sound like a broken record but if a talented RT falls to Dallas in draft next year I would like for Jerry to make that pick. Continue to build the trenches.

I think we go CB or pass-rushing DE in first. Although, I am always fine building the trenches. The quality ones make the rest of the team look good too.

Actually both the OP's narrative and what happens in the game would say this is wrong. Broaddus said that's what he thought but upon watching game footage that didn't appear to be the truth. And that's what I saw as well. Heath was in there by the second series for Wilcox before he even whiffed on the tackle. They do like Heath and have been rotating him in but it's not because Wilcox is being punished.

I've seen Earl Thomas and Jarius Byrd whiff on several tackles in games against us so I don't get how people act like it's a calamity when Wilcox does miss. And I don't really blame him for that play because Hayden was so bad on it that the hole that opened up was much different from the one Wilcox had to have envisioned when he was attacking the play initially.

Wilcox played all but 3 of the defensive snaps. Most of Heath's playing time was with 3 Safeties in the game.

According to Broaddus, the defensive coaches do NOT share your viewpoint on Heath. Heath isn't
going anywhere and will continue to push Wilcox when he whiffs on tackles.

I pulled up the All-22 and review the plays after Wilcox whiffed on Lynch.

Heath replaced Church for 2 plays, not Wilcox. Wilcox and Heath were on the field together.

No more CBs in the first round unless that individual has Deion Sanders talent and smarts. A CB can be had in the second to fourth (Richard Sherman & Scandrick come to mind) rounds.

I do agree that DE would be a good selection. I want (DE) Trey Flowers from Arkansas.

Mayock was a huge Martin homer...but to be fair Mayock is a huge homer for most that play for Notre Dame as he does the Notre Dame games.

But in this case he was correct and I think he said he was also the safest pick in the draft.

I remember he did say Martin was the safest pick

I appreciate you bringing facts into the Wilcox conversation.

Thanks for the recap.

Man alive...every time I watch a game I am thankful that the steelers took Shazier and someone talked Jerry out of Johnny.

Martin really is having a great rookie season and it is a shame that Rookies of the week and Offensive rookies of the year are rarely, if ever, o linemen...because he deserves some recognition in these areas.

Hopefully when the pro-bowl comes around he will get some votes.

Im also glad that we didn't take Shazier. I believe in building the trenches first and foremost. Linebackers can be found in the later rounds. So Im glad that Pitt selected Shazier.

My first pick was Donald. Then the not so sexy pick of Martin. If we picked Johnny football I would probably take the year off of watching football all together. That pick was headed for disaster.

Travis Fredrick was huge vs Seattle

Talk about Martin having a probowl yr

Was a little surprised that Tyron Smith won NFC Offensive Player of the Week after Seattle, either of the 3 interior guys were more deserving IMO. Especially Fred, he is the key to this OL.

Me thinks that Martin has gotten enough pub so far and the OL in general as well, that if this continues......he very well may get rookie of the year. Don't know of any other rookies doing well other than that FA rookie RB in SD. But he being a #1 pick, would be in his favor.

The OL is being noticed leaguewide, with Tyron Smith getting offensive player of the week. They said that last OLman to win this was Erik Williams in '93.

The 22 look at the end hit the Seattles when they were the most tired. I think it was ASturm who made the comment on Murray's eight yard run between the 25 and the 15 TD was a Seattle tried arm tackling because at that point it hurt less.

It is very enjoyable to see this team punch people in the mouth and say, "Now what'd you gonna do about it, sport?"
