A rookie usually takes time to develop, Romo doesn't have that time.

I'd love to see Romo get a ring (like who wouldn't?), but I would like to see the team competitive for the next decade and not just the next 2 seasons.

I survived Danny White coming close and not getting a ring, I would survive Romo not getting one.

Dez pursued Jordan to join his brand. Jordan was hesitant and Dez offered the trial basis to prove himself.

Man it's bad when every one that is going to pay you says prove yourself and it's not because of how great you play football.

At my age and stress level I might not.

Am I right in assuming the getting out from under Romos contract means being able to save $ on that years cap if he had to be cut?

"Dez we are trying to help you by giving you less money. Trust us."

What kind of joke reporting is that?

That's what it sounds like to me.

It would also seem that turning some of this year's salary into a bonus in order to lower his cap charge isn't an automatic "to do".

The other thing... It wouldn't kill me to see someone take Dez off the Cowboys hands for those 2 first round draft picks.

Me either. They'd lose some pop, but there would be a lot of flexibility for this team to get more parts.

Gosh yes!

Look at the two teams that made it to the SB. How many of those receivers would we want on this club?

I'm going to guess it isn't less money just less up front. They probably have it structured with guaranteed money instead of a big bonus. He and his agent I'm sure want it up front. Sounds like the team is afraid he could lose it all because of all the hands out. Maybe they could get him to put some of it in a trust.

I had a pretty good idea that the holdup with Dez's contract was the guaranteed money.

I knew that the contract structure was very similar to Tyron Smith's deal, and the Cowboys would be able to use it as a way to restructure it to create cap room for several years, without ballooning the contract in such way that it would come down to asking Dez for a paycut or releasing him.

I said that the initial guaranteed money would be low, but after a few restructures that guaranteed money would balloon up to a higher figure, thus the true guaranteed money would be much higher.

Bryant's previous agent, who worked with the Cowboys extensively, knew that and had a deal in place until Dez decided he didn't like it and fired him.

Players truly look at the guaranteed money upfront and thats all that matters to them.

There's a crap load of good WR's coming out.

And no, they probably won't be a "Dez" but given the various talent on this offense they don't have to be either. The passing game doesn't have to be Dez-focused in order to succeed.

On top of that it would create a crap-load of salary cap space.

I'm not asking to be rid of Dez Bryant, but I can think of worse things that could happen than to get a couple 1st round draft picks AND to free up a bunch of cap space.

Would not mind green beckham

Why doesn't Dez's reps understand it if its such a good situation. Seems strange that coaches would say they were "stressed" concerning RoMc off the field issues. I'm stressed about Randle & AP.

Randle's an easily replacable part.

AP, other than beating kids with a switch, doesn't seem to have the "knucklehead" that Randle does.

RoMc strikes me as an "odd-bird". He's not the knucklehead that Randle is, but acts sorta goofy... goofy in that you can't figure the guy out.

I think it means not restructuring him this yr to get the brunt of his guaranteed money out. Sounds like they're starting to think of life after romo now. Because they were talking bout Dez age and amount of yrs they're playing him guaranteed money and not wanting to be doing that 5 yrs down the line

As an example: Carr's initial deal was $25.5M guaranteed, with the second year structured in a way to be used to create cap room.

Because it was restructured that second year that created a jump in dead money hit that the Cowboys would not even think about releasing Carr.

Carr has made $33M thus far and is on the books again for another $12.717M that the Cowboys are now trying take back in the form of a paycut.

$25M guaranteed initially, with a $4M dead money hit if we would have left his contract alone and released him this season.

But the Cowboys love to restructure, so he made $33M and now the Cowboys are asking him to reduce his salary to help the team's cap situation.

Who got the better end?

Broaddus: from talking to people at VR, its not the off the field stuff that worries the Cowboys on Dez. Its the length of the contract. They dont want to get into a situation that Texans and Cards are in with older WRs.

The problem with the Texans and Cardinals isnt Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson
