Bucs wide receiver Ike Hilliard takes a hard hit from Leroy Hill in the second quarter. Hilliard was knocked out on the play and spent the night in the hospital for observation.

TAMPA — The casualties are mounting at a position where the Bucs had little depth anyway.

The receiving unit has been besieged by injuries, with veteran Ike Hilliard's concussion that required hospitalization the latest blow.
Hilliard was released from the hospital early Monday and, coach Jon Gruden said, was to be cleared of any serious ramifications after a helmet-to-helmet blow from Seahawks LB Leroy Hill. Whether Hilliard plays next week at Dallas is another matter.

"He was obviously checked out thoroughly (Sunday) night and all indications were good, but we'll see how he feels here in the coming days," Gruden said Monday. "Right now, I would say (he is) in question."
Already, the Bucs are missing Joey Galloway (foot) and Maurice Stovall (hamstring), and Gruden made no guarantees either will play against the Cowboys. Tampa Bay promoted journeyman Brian Clark, a Tampa native, from the practice squad Saturday. He was immediately pressed into service against the Seahawks, catching one pass for 12 yards.

Frustration is mounting as Galloway's absence lingers. Though signs pointed to Galloway returning against the Seahawks, Gruden indicated he and his staff elected not to play him because they remain unconvinced he is ready. Galloway was injured Sept. 14.

"You've got to be able to play," Gruden said. "You've got to be able to run all the routes. You've got to have the stamina to play. We've got to see that, hear that and watch that on the practice field Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. If that (is) the case, you will see him against Dallas."

When Galloway returns, there's no guarantee he'll step right into a prominent role. Gruden is encouraged by Antonio Bryant's performance at Galloway's split end position and vowed not to move Bryant for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, Stovall seemed hopeful he will return this week.

"This is a business where you can't be down for long," he said. "Someone is always there to get the job done. I want to get back for myself, one, and for my team."

Ready for Romo: The Bucs don't know whether they'll face injured Cowboys QB Tony Romo, but they intend to be ready. While the defense will prepare for backup and former Buc Brad Johnson as well, Romo will get the bulk of the attention.

"We'll assume (Romo) will play," Gruden said. "We'll also take a look at obviously Brad Johnson. It will be great to see Brad again. … They've got a loaded roster and a great, talented staff, and we'll do the best we can."

Not about numbers: The Bucs' total of 11 sacks (21st in the league) isn't that impressive. But Gruden cautioned against looking solely at stats. As evidenced Sunday night, a good pass rush doesn't always culminate with a sack.

"The pass rush can be defined in terms of sacks or pressure and hits on the quarterback also," Gruden said. "If you can make the quarterback veer right or left, if you can disrupt his timing, his vision and his rhythm, that's a good pass rush."

The Bucs had no sacks on Seattle's Seneca Wallace. But Wallace never could relax in the pocket because of Tampa Bay's relentless pressure, particularly from DE Gaines Adams. Wallace finished 12-of-23 for 73 yards and committed two turnovers (one fumble, one interception).

It doesn't matter.

They run a West Coast offense so we will have trouble getting pressure just because of that.

Garcia can buy time. Kills us even more.

And our pass defense just isn't getting it done.

At least if Romo played we could win the game in a shootout. If Johnson plays than we pick up an L before the game ever starts.

Doesn't matter how thin they are when we hand teams the win.

That was a vicious hit by Leroy Hill. So hard, that he also gave his own player, Lofa Tatupu, a concussion as well. Both Tatupu and Hilliard were out the rest of the game.

That said, Ike is likely out this week, mostly as a precautionary measure. He's had neck/head trouble in the part, and that's a dangerous injury.

When Hilliard went down, our #3 WR was TE Jerramy Stevens for the most part. Brian Clark played bits as a #4.

Maybe this is what the Cowboys need. Wade will call the D and may add a spark. The last time we played the Bucs, I think on ThanksGiving Romo threw for 5 TD's and a win. Just maybe this is the game that changes the Cowboys season.

*shrugs* that pathetic Rams O was missing Bulger's bodyguard(Pace), their center, and they mostly came out with 2 WR sets. They still killed us.

Again, let's see what Wade can do for the defense. We all know Stewart sucks!

Well-I hope this HAS been what's holding back the team...Wade not calling the plays instead.

Otherwise, what makes me not so sure of this...sure, Brian called the plays, but isn't Wade's blueprints all over the playbook? Doesn't Wade usually make up most of the D game plan, AND have final say on the game plan? And isn't the play sheet on game day the GAME SET that Wade worked on all week?

Don't mean to hijack this thread-but this is why I don't find much of a difference. But I hope you guys are right.

What the Cowboys need is Romo.

Without him we will lose.

I think Stewart was calling the plays and think Wade was protecting him a little. Just hope Wade can do what he did when he was with San Deigo.

I hear you but I think the Cowboys need to stay in the game with good ST's and defense so they don't have to put so much pressure on the offense too much.

I hope Wade get call the D like he did when he was in SanDeigo!

I think if the Cowboys cut down on the stupid penalties and turnover I think they will win.

We've been wanting that for 4 years now.

Parcells couldn't beat it out of them and Wade sure as heck can't do it either.

Its not a coaching problem its a player problem. I know that for a fact.

Romo is one of the top playmakers in the league and without him this team can't overcome all the stupid things they do.

He gets us out of bad plays, 3rd and forevers, and can keep us in the game when the defense gives up 7.

Doesn't matter who they line up out there they can, and probably will, have a field day against us cause of our lack of consistent rush and our scheme, and players, allowing people to just run free on us.

We'll still dink and dunk in the passing game.

The key for us is getting Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn going in the run game. If we do that, it'll let Garcia do his thing. Our offensive line has got to win this game.

I know your down as I am too. But I still have a little hope that things can turn around and it all starts this week against the Bucs.

I also think part of the penalty problem is...theres just to many rules in the NFL so its to easy to rack up penalties.

What we need is a healthy Romo. Even then we may lose with our D playing awful.

Reasons for loss:

1. Turnovers
2. STs giving up field position
3. Getting behind....no way for us to win with Johnson under pressure and playing from behind by more than 2 scores
4. Then you have to get to QB. That opens up the run which opens up the pass which....you get it.

Without turnovers and big plays you don't get back into the game.

Point being if we don't turn the ball over and kill drives with penalties then we have a chance with Johnson as long as he gets protection and we can run the ball some. Big secret. Block, tackle, run the ball, protect your QB and get after their's.
