Understand we had to cut a player in order to sign Johnson even though he suspended and can't play. After 24 hours we can re-sign the player if we want to unless he has to go through waivers and someone claims him.

Have checked around but found no word. Thought you folks in Dallas area might have gotten something on the radio/television.

Under league rules, the Cowboys will have to release a player to make room for Johnson on the active roster for one day before he will revert to the team's suspended list.

My guess...

Its tuesday, players are off on tuesday.

I dont think anyone has been cut. I am not sure since he is suspended he counts yet against the 53 man roster.

I've e-mailed a few people for clarification on this rule. Along with the reported "must sign by Tuesday" rule, which I've also asked about, something doesn't add up. According to these two rules, as they're being reported, we would have to cut someone to make room for Tank, who would revert to our reserve/suspended list in 24 hours, but we couldn't re-sign anyone to take his place after that because it would be after Tuesday. That doesn't make sense.

Over the past two years, we've signed lots of players after a Tuesday. We even signed Billy Cundiff on a Saturday, and he played the next day. Unless it's a new rule this season, the whole "Tuesday deadline" thing doesn't make sense.

Also, players who were suspended during the offseason don't have to be on the 53-man roster for a day at the start of the season before going on the reserve/suspended list. They can go on the list at the same time as the cutdown. So why would Tank have to be carried on our 53-man roster for 24 hours? Unless it's a rule specific to signing a free agent who already is suspended, it doesn't make sense, either.

I thought that but several reports indicate that he needs a spot on the 53 man first, then we can put him on the suspended list - I expect someone like Berger is going to be told to take a day off and he'll get an extra 10k or something on his new deal.

Nope, Sago is right. To sign Johnson, the Cowboys have to cut someone, then sign Tank, then place him on the suspended list, then hopefully resign the original player.

Have you ever heard of a roster exemption?

Oakland has one for Jamarcus Russell until 9/24.

We don't have to cut anyone for quite a while.

good work. it really doesn't make sense that you can't sign people post-tuesday. Im sure when things are cleared up, you will be dead on as always and shortly after someone will copy/paste your posts on the matter and create an article out of it.

I heard Tank likes guns so I doubt anyone gets cut.

Shot maybe... But not cut.

It seems like the we self imposed a Tuesday deadline for Tank. And he signed 5-10 minutes before the deadline expired.

Im sure some of you guys could clear this up but can players not go on to the PUP list after the start of the season? And when can they be brought back.

Thought I heard week 6 but im probably wrong.

Anyway why not just throw Glenn on there for a week or two and cut no one.

No, once players have participated in practices or scrmages they cannot be put on PUP.
