Lawrence has been dominant. Definitely deserves consideration for DPOY so far

He does.

Very impressive, but I don't think it is coincidence he turns it up to an "11" in his contract year.

That the crux, Alex. We can't chance it, tho, and let him walk, brother? What is your opinion on it, my man? Franchise, team-friendly extension (if he even goes for it), large extension if he doesn't?

Just last year, many on here wanted to get rid of him. For that matter, there were some saying he was a bust during the offseason. I try to keep that in mind when I read fan reactions to other players who haven't really been given a chance to prove themselves yet.

To bring this back around to Tank, though, he's been more than I could have expected him to be this year, and I had high expectations for him based on what he showed the second half of 2015.

The funny thing is that most fans/media obsessed about pass rushers in the offseason bur the problem has been more about run stoppers and LBs.

It's a good example of why the draft should be BPA.

Just franchise him if he does not play ball if you think he is crucial. He really does not have a lot of leverage with just one year of production. I would prefer a mutually fair deal. I can't think of a similar pass rusher who is like Lawrence where he did nothing then exploded.

If Lawrence had not emerged, pass rush would still be an issue because Charlton has been so underwhelming.

Yeah, its damning, man. He had that decent year when The Kraken was eating up blocks, and that nice showing in the Detroit Div game.

But damn if you don't have to look hard for any sustained splash or true, sustained production from him prior to this year or the year of Hardy.

It really is damning. He's playing out of his mind this year. It has to be talent and motivation, right?! But how much of it is talent? And will he be motivated to be an elite edge rusher after he gets paid?

Aside from the franchise tag, if he's unwilling to take a team-friendly deal, do we let him walk? Let's say he finishes with 16 sacks and 4 FF. Gosh, it'd be hard to walk from that. But if he wants a deal like Olivier, it could kill us if his back acts up again, or he sputters.

Huge conundrum for the staff.

I'm not debating the why. My point is that many years the biggest problems during the season are not the problems that most people obsessed about in the offseason.

Just acquire as much talent as possible and things tend to work out better than forcing the issue on a position.

I get the BPA argument.

But look at the draft and the relative strength. This was a "rusher" year.

We should have taken Watt, but that is besides the point.

Even if Dallas had a crystal ball, I guess you could have made a case for Foster there. But this was not a good DT year.

shoot, prior to week 1, I was resigned to this being his last year with us...

I thought it probably would be as well, although I felt he would put up 12 to 14 sacks if healthy. I just didn't think that would be enough because of the back issues. However, if he keeps doing what he's been doing, I don't see how Dallas won't at least tag him.

They say that Taco was BPA. Only available player ranked higher was a RB.

Well there is something wrong with how they constructed their board.

I have a suspicion it was not close to a purely stacked board by talent.

It was likely slanted to position played.

That is fine. They forced it, we will see how it works out.

The good news is if we re-sign or tag Lawrence, tender Irving and Charlton comes on, I don't see us addressing pass rush next year. We might look at an NT if we're drafting late in the first round, but I really think Collins will be a solid starter there once we figure out how to play to his strengths. I think we'll be looking to use that first-round pick elsewhere.

WR or Safety.

It should be BPA.
