Who else knew about it? So he's had it since he was a kid, so what? He said it was never diagnosed. So nobody knew about it. I can't remember anyone saying that he was a health risk, and generally when a guy has a physical problem EVERYONE knows about it, like Ron Leary. In this case his back hurt since he was a kid, it wasn't diagnosed, and nobody in the NFL apparently picked it up either.

Tapper should have been placed on NFI. Not only has he missed all of preseason, lost weight, need to regain his game strength/speed but for his own sake he should not rush back. It would be better for him and team if he was physically and mentally prepared to contribute instead of rusing hI'm back because DE position is a disaster.

It's only 6 weeks compared to rest of his career, never mind rest of his life.

Team doctors probably found it on his admission X-rays. It's not a fracture, but a defect in the development of the vertebral facets that interlock vertebrae. It creates a risk of instability, significant enough to deny military service.

I don't see how he can play with that kind of risk unless he has corrective surgery.
Maybe that's the plan.

A lot of people seem not to realize that if a guy walks onto the field for one play during training camp he's no longer NFI eligible. It's kind of stupid, but that's the rule.
