Shout out to our team doctors.

Super. Between Jaylon and Tapper, we can see who heals first.

Team doctors probably found it on his admission X-rays. It's not a fracture, but a defect in the development of the vertebral facets that interlock vertebrae. It creates a risk of instability, significant enough to deny military service.
I don't see how he can play with that kind of risk unless he has corrective surgery.
Maybe that's the plan.
ExactlySo if the Cowboys doctors knew this months ago and figured they could eventually deal with it, it still calls into question what the hell the front office was thinking when it comes to the defensive end position.
What about Ian Seau ???Exactly
DLaw and Gregory suspended
Russell cut
Tapper broke backed
Mayowa untested
SJones "we aren't looking at anyone at this point"

Apparently his only success in the preseason came against Chaz Green.
ChazBut you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater during a four game suspension of DLaw. When he gets back the DE position is fine assuming there are no new injuries.
The DT position is fine and we have depth at both positions.
Jack Crawford is OK as a LDE until DLaw gets back and Irving is fine as a backup.
So you are really looking at the RDE position and they made the call to go with Mayowa long ago. It was another Will McClay decision and he has been very good at finding the hidden gems in the last few years.
The real issue is backing up RDE. I really, really hate using Wilbur as a DE but if you are forced into it for a couple of series in each half its not the end of the world in Marinelli's scheme.
The real issue is how fast Tapper can be on the field, how well he plays and if Jack Crawford can take full time snaps while DLaw is suspended.

I think your choice of words is telling.......'fine' 'OK' 'forced' 'hidden gems'......I would have signed someone a long time agoBut you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater during a four game suspension of DLaw. When he gets back the DE position is fine assuming there are no new injuries.

The problem with this is - they were not forced to go with Wilber. There have been, continue to be other options, they have chosen to go this route. But you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater during a four game suspension of DLaw. Boy oh boy if there's a path that leads by Dracula's castle whenever it comes to the Cowboys... you're on the path in a jiffy!

You mean like broke backed mountain?![]()

Things looked pretty good after the Draft but the situation changed pretty dramatically....at the very least I would have signed Freeney and/or recently Kruger or Ryan DavisSo the obvious followup is who?
DLaw's suspension is a problem but you don't overpay for a 16 game player to fill a 4 game spot.
The other part of the plan was to take Ogbah or Dodd with the 2nd round pick but that didn't work out on a complete fluke with both going in the two picks ahead of ours in the 2nd.
They also expected Ryan Russell to play better than he did, and Irving and Tapper to be healthy.
Every year some positions have a wave of problems, you can't start the offseason by overpaying for the 3rd or 4th option at a position. You just gut out the couple of games where you are thin at the position.
