Tapper question

Broaddus, Fish, Mickeroo, Tony Casillas (local Fox station), and Talking Cowboys. They all hinted Tapper looked the best at RDE before his condition was discovered in Training Camp in 2016.

ok, will google it and compare to the Russell hype etc

Charles Tapper looked like an edge rusher in this practice. There were several snaps in 1-on-1 where he was off the ball before the tackle had a chance to react. What was even more impressive was the way Tapper was able to finish his rush. He showed power, along with pass rush moves (spin) in order to free himself to get to the level of the quarterback. Tapper was also able to get up the field in the running game, where he had a tackle for loss during Team Period and was able to later retrace his steps in order to get back to the ball.
In the same article, he said "Before you roll your eyes as you read these words – Morris Claiborne had a really nice day at the office."

Also Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys' website expects Ryan Russell to open the season as Dallas' starting left end. Broaddus admits it's a "gut" feeling right now, but the Cowboys are going to have to patch something together with both starting DEs Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory suspended the first four weeks of the season. Russell played in just one game last season as a fifth-round rookie. Benson Mayowa is expected to start at right end, with rookie Charles Tapper also in the mix.

Russell played in 8 games for Bucs and got 1 sack

Greg Hardy was drafted by Carolina in round 6.....just saying. The round doesn't really matter....how hard will he work to develop his technique, strength, and stamina.

Bro Waldo just go back to the off season threads here in the zone. Zoners where hyped like crazy on Russell and the young guns. I promise. Threads and threads thousands of posts on how the young Dlinemen where gonna show up. Threads on why we didn't need any free agents because they would only be progress stoppers. Mucho threads

To be fair though that's just fandom. Every fan base thinks their draft picks are the bomb

Tapper is a much better prospect than Russell. Russell was basically a 6th rounder. Russell got a lot of hype because random writers (Yes you Bryan) would pump him up unbelievably so the fanbase thought he was better than he was.

Tapper probably would have gone a round earlier if he'd played in an attacking scheme.

He needs some fundamental work, but i think he's actually going to be pretty good. Like, a future piece for us to build around type player. First year DE is hard for anybody, but Marinelli is the perfect coach for him, especially regarding pad level.

He reminds me of Maliek, a good football player in the wrong scheme.

I think he's going to be a Michael Bennett type player for us.

I can root for him to succeed! We need those DEs

Here's another reason to root for him. That's Amari Cooper. The guy that tackles him is a lil fella' named Tapper.

Cooper cut inside, stumbled, and cut back outside. It's the only reason he caught him. He did outrun the rest of his defense though.

Tapper is going to have to show it to me on the field before I get too excited about him. I'm not expecting much as it is.

I admit he does have some size and speed and I have hopes for him... but he's gonna have to do it in camp and games for anything beyond that.

Loci honey,

I did a little checking into Tapper and his great 40 time but the hamstring issue that prevented him to run the cone and shuttle.

Other may laugh at this but I realized that in my short search, I found many examples that do not run the shuttle and cone due to hamstring 'injury'.
First, there is Myles Garrett who ran a 4.64 40 but no cone and shuttle (no explanation why)

Another player of note is Michael Bennett - 274lb
He ran a 4.86 40 in his pro day but also had a hamstring issue that prevented him from running the cone and the shuttle in both the combine and the pro day.

Perhaps their agents are the ones who remind players that are more straight ahead speed guys that the hamstring are injured so they should not cause further injury by running the cone and shuttle. Guess the 40 is ok because it puts less stress on their hamstrings.

May be Seattle discovered the wide-9 overcomes limited agility?
So they have been able to get these players with speed to play well for their system?
Though Casius Marsh, a 250lb DE did have a decent 7.09 cone though with a 1.66 sec 10 yard split (Tapper is 1.59 sec, Bennett is 1.62-1.78 sec).

If we're so fascinated with 40 time, why don't we just draft Jordan Willis at 28? Guy has the most impressive physical attributes for an edge rusher since Von Miller. He also has solid college stats (11.5 sacks last year) in a major conference.

Actually, the hype on Tapper has nothing to do with his 40 except as it stands with idiots.

If you watch the tape when he wasn't doing a 2-gap read. He was explosive. The problem is, there was minimal film of that because of the scheme he played in.

Tapper's mistake was he was young and naive. He signed with the biggest school that recruited him. That school was OU who wasn't a fit for his talent.

The real question is. How will he hold up against the run in the NFL. I think as a pressure guy, is much less of a question.

they should run the cone drill before the "40"
