Tavon Austin

4 out of 5 years, he was under 300 yards. He is a bum. He is essentially a poor mans Desmond Howard in an NFL that doesn't allow special teams to be played properly for his skills to be utilized. He is a return man, and that is it.
He had a combined 900 Yard’s between receiving and rushing and 10 tds three seasons ago. Take a breath man. He is not garbage, he won’t be Antonio Brown. But if he received for 700 yards and 5 tds and rushes for 300 and a few tds then Dallas stole him.

I think he can be a real weapon if used correctly. Really want to see him run routes that are in the open field. Slants, hooks, go, etc... I don't want to see him run routes that force him to possibly run out of the sidelines. I saw this on one play last night that bothered me.

2 out of 5 years.

If you’re going to criticize a player, at least be accurate

You obviously can't tell the difference between rushing and receiving stats.

We have 5yrs of precedence to suggest he is going to be under 300yds receiving. Why in his 6th year at the age of 28yrs old, has it all of a sudden changed?
Because of Garrett....lol!

Agree very crisp and he brings some attitude to the offensive side. Most of all I like the demon speed!
the attitude was most surprising. acted like he'd just won the sb with every reception. not that that's a bad thing.

Jeff Fisher kills offenses. Also Im not sure where you got 5 years under 300 from? Im really not expecting him to light it up, but his speed will be an asset. I expect he has an impact for us.

He was used poorly on a rams team that was not a very good team. I just said I don't know how he will do in Dallas but I do think Dallas will use him different than just running the same bubble screens and jet sweeps. You are right I am optimistic and realistic, I'm not putting him in the Pro Bowl just giving him a chance to show what he can do in a different system and being used in a different way

Last year the Rams had the #1 offense coached by a young, creative coach and couldn’t get him involved. I’m in wait and see mode. Loved his skills in college but I’m not sure why it hasn’t translated. Hoping we find something

He was used more as a RB last season than as a WR. I do agree about waiting and seeing how he does but I will base it on what he does here not how he was used with the Rams.

Right! I don’t care about those years if we find a way to use his speed and ability in space. My worry is “why couldn’t McVay with that O last year?” That’s all. As a TCU guy he gave me nightmares at W. Va so would like to see that for opposing Ds

I agree. Cowboys need to find a way to use Austin speed to keep safeties honest so when they cheat up towards the line to stop Zeke we can make them pay for it.

This. He looked like a receiver last night and not some specialty player. 5'8 guys can play receiver if you give them a chance, just ask Beasley.

Unlike Beasley Tavon is a guy who posted a 4.25 40. What he lacks in size he make up with speed.

Me too. My concern with him is that while he has deep speed, he hasn't really been a deep threat in his career. His best average as a receiver has been 10.5 yards his rookie year. Last night, we saw a linebacker covering him downfield and knocking a pass away.

With these little guys like him and Beasley, one of the hardest things in throwing them deep passes is that they absolutely have to create separation. You can throw a 50/50 ball to a taller receiver, but if you throw a jump ball to a 5-6 receiver, he's going to lose.

The other problem is that they can't get off the press as easily as bigger receivers because they have to do it with speed. Defenders want to be handsy with them to suppress their speed.

Both Austin and Beasley are going to make their living underneath, but they are going to have to eat defenders up occasionally deep or defenses will start cheating those short routes. Of course, you can beat that with rub routes, but we don't use those.

Not sure why Linehan won't use rub routes, Beasley and Austin are perfect for them.
