I'm probably in the minority, but from a Commanders perspective, I don't really like this deal.

My main reason is that I don't think the Commanders are going to be a top team regardless, and if I were them, I'd want to build the roster with young, talented players via the Draft (with a 2-3 year view). J Taylor is going to be 34 yrs old in around a month. You can't build a foundation by giving up a 2nd rounder and a late Day 2 pick for a soon to be 34 yr old DE.

It's not like the Commanders are a player away. At least that's my take on it.

I agree with you, I don't see them as a Superbowl Contender this year or even a playoff contender, so what make a trade for a "now" player when you are not a "now" team.

I still wonder if Taylor will even show up for training camp. As far as the 1 year deal goes, Cerrato is claiming that he'll definitely play for more than 1 year. It wouldn't surprise me, but it's still something that I won't believe until Taylor says it to be so.

If they can get 2 years out of the guy and he plays well, then I can't blame them for taking the chance. But if he's only there for a year or is lousy when he plays there, then it's another screwup for the Commanders. 2nd round picks are the best picks to have because there's a low amount of risk and high rewards at that round.

YAKUZA

Well Synder also though that Deion Sanders was going to play more than one year also:D

Their DE do seem to be on the light side now. If we use a balanced offensive attack against them, power running game, this could create big problems for them.

Barber, Barber and then some more Barber. :)

Welp, Taylor will now be rendered a bust for two games a year when Flozell shuts him down twice! :laugh2:
That's what I was thinking. Taylor wsn't a huge factor in our game with Miami last year.

Upgrade for the skins; for sure, but it doesn't help them offensively and that is their biggest weakness.

Same old stupid Skins. I heard Cerrato interviewed last night on ESPN radio, and he sounded like they only called about Taylor after the two injuries to Daniels and the other guy. Basically, they panicked about not having a DE, then overpaid for a guy who will play maybe only one more year. (Though Cerrato said he was "100% sure" that Taylor would play more than just one year, haha.) Second round picks should be integral (and inexpensive) building blocks on your team, but the Skins still don't get it.

The kicker was how proud Cerrato sounded of himself for pulling off this deal. It reminded me of how he was crowing to everyone about acquiring the great Randel-El and Brandon Lloyd. It was really funny.

Considering he had 43 total rushing yards in 2 games last year -- that's fine with me :)

I do agree that they overpaid but they didn't get a bum. El and Lloyd are no where near Taylors pedigree. They took a chance on those two. This is pretty much knowing exactly what they are getting... a pro bowler.

So yes, they overpaid but the contract can still be reworked. And they have done nothing but upgrade their team this year. I am excited that they are getting better because it means better quality games in general all around. I hate the Skins but LOVE the rivalry.

And welcome aboard, BnG

I wasn't comparing the players -- obviously Taylor has been a far better player than those receivers -- but Cerrato's sticking his chest out over the deal, as if he were the only one who had thought of and "was able" to get this deal done.

And sure, Taylor may be good for a year or two, but that's not the point. The point is that they don't understand building for the long term. Instead, it's spit and baling wire, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants patchwork. That's why I'm not worried about them like I am the Giants or Eagles, who understand how to use the draft to build a team with staying power.

This year, he is lead dog.

That second game last year was garbage, TO & Romo hurting. Not hard to stop a 1 dimensional team.

We'll see how your DE's hold the corners (their ground) when you guys get a full dose of "the Barbarian". Can you say ed!!!!!!!

We'll see. If Taylor can play a couple of more years and the Skins are contenders, its a solid move. I know, a lot of "ifs.." ...but its possible. I mean, who had the Giants winning a Super Bowl this past year? Not I.

Maybe they overpaid, I dunno. But at least (for them), they overpaid(?) for an elite talent.

A 2nd and 6th for Taylor >>>>>>>> 3rd and 4th (or whatever it was) for Lloyd.

And really, if they have a good season next year, a late 2nd for a good pass rusher isn't that bad of a deal (if he plays more than 1 year, of course)

Don't forget: TO's never had a big game against the Skins, either.

I agree that the 2nd game was basically meaningless.

But the first game, he had 15 carries. Thats more than enough to do something against them. He didn't. It is what it is.

Hey Vintage, I thought that was for Duckett (sp) from the Falcons? Maybe they both were awesome moves. :shades:

Ohhhhh...I am shaking in my boooootssss....oooohhhh steamrolled...and you put a picture of a steamroller on it....he had 43 yards on 15 carries at home...he's clearly "garbage." Ok I am being all kinds of sarcastic here...I do have a lot of respect for Barber -- I love that style of running. I also have a big disdain for referring to someone as garbage. It's really classless and ignorant.

As much as I respect Barber -- he is setting himself up for a short career. That running style wears one out. I'd also like to see him carry the load.

Does anyone know what his YPC is after he hits 20 carries?

Usually the Skins do a good job against the run.

I just think run support is not Taylor's strong suit.

The G-men's run defense in my opinion is just as formidable as the Skins. You saw the effect of Barber in the 1st half of the playoff game when he started. They made halftime adjustments to slow him down.

Shaking is good for ya, keeps the heart racing.

I remember going to games @ RFK, the seats (stands) would be shaking (rocking). Cool environment to be abused in. :D

Barber should be part of a 2 back/3 back system that we will be running, he'll just be leading the way. With the rotation, that should prolong his career.

In Miami, Taylor played primarily at right end, but Cerrato said Washington will move him to the left side, where Daniels was the starter.

I'm curious to see how he will adjust to both a new defense and a new position.
