A Few Quick Hits From Tuesday's OTA Practice
Posted by jellis at 5/26/2009 1:33 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

The Cowboys resumed their summer Organized Team Activities with a midday practice at Standridge Stadium in nearby Carrollton today. A few observations:
*With Greg Ellis again being held out as the team seeks a trade, Anthony Spencer took all the first team reps at outside linebacker opposite DeMarcus Ware.
*Tony Romo threw several wobbly passes during practice, including one that was almost intercepted by Terence Newman. Winds were gusty, but it didn't seem to have much effect on balls thrown by the other quarterbacks.
*Wade Phillips said both Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins worked as first team cornerbacks across from Terence Newman.
*Joe DeCamillis was in attendance yet again for the special teams portion of practice, which began the session. Offensive and defensive veterans arrived later via bus.
*Sam Hurd, Jason Hatcher and Kyle Kosier worked with trainers during the OTA. Hurd had a minor quad injury and hopes to return later in the week, while Kosier is still rehabbing from the foot injury that ended his 2008 season and Hatcher was resting the left knee he had scoped early this off-season.
*Hurd did take the field after the practice, working with snapper L.P. Ladouceur and kicker David Buehler on holding for field goals.
*Punter Mat McBriar was excused from practice to attend a wedding.
*Jerry Jones said DeCamillis raved about three or four of the rookies and what they can bring to the special teams, but the owner wouldn't say which ones, joking that they weren't under contract yet.
Much more to come later.

Is there anything this guy can't do? :)

I misread that at first, too, but I think they're saying that Hurd was the one holding.

Still, the answer to your question is no.

they failed to mention that Buehler practices holding the opposing team's players down while Folk attempts field goals

When we will hear about Buehler's kickoffs. I must have missed it.

I think this will be the line they'll give Scandrick when Jenkins is named starter despite Scandrick being the better player.

Scandrick's value to the team as its' best slot corner may cost him the 'starter' title.

What's it going to be then, eh?

If Scandrick beats out Jenkins, why would they deny him the job? If he's a better slot coverage player, then he'll just slide into that role when we go with five or six DBs. I don't think our staff is the sharpest, but they aren't completely mental.

We'll see.

I can see them wanting the young players focusing on one role rather than multiple ones.

I remember them starting Ellis over Spencer last season when Spencer was playing better and there wasn't a valid reason.

And it would sure look better for the team and scouts if their #1 draft choice was starting over their 5th rounder.

Hopefully, I'm jumping to conclusions.

Maybe I'm just in a foul mood today...

MacGyver? I was thinking more like Jack Bauer.

Bauer almost died, that would have never happened to Buehler.
Buehler could die. He'd just be resurrected in a couple of days though.

I refuse to believe that he could die but if he did die and comes back he will be bigger, faster, and stronger no doubt.
