I would prefer them going to a better conference, but at least they will get a fair shot at a NC from now on. Of course, losing Andy Dalton is probably going to be enough to weaken TCU enough that they won't be good enough anymore.

==============================

DALLAS -- TCU has accepted a bid to the Big East Conference, which will take effect July 1, 2012, according to sources familiar with the deal. The school has set a news conference for 1 p.m. CT on campus to make "a major announcement involving the TCU athletics program."

A source confirmed the move to ESPN.com's Joe Schad Monday as well.

Big East commissioner John Marinatto and associate commissioner in charge of communications John Paquette flew to Dallas on Sunday in advance of the announcement, according to a New York Daily News story earlier Monday.

The school's release said athletic director Chris Del Conte would be present at the news conference along with school chancellor Victor Boschini.

The conference change allows TCU to play in an automatic BCS-qualifying league beginning in the 2012-13 school year. TCU currently plays in the Mountain West Conference, which does not have an automatic bid to the BCS and is going through some changes of its own. BYU and Utah are leaving the conference just as Boise State enters.

TCU would become the Big East's ninth football team. The conference has extended an invitation to Villanova to become its 10th football member.

We're more of a basketball conference. But welcome to the Big East anyway.

The fact that the Big 12 - 2 didn't jump on this makes me crazy. I'm a UT fan, but it looks like the conference is scared of TCU.

Considering Dalton will be gone by the time they join, it must be their defense alone that scares them. TCU won't be what it has been when Dalton leaves.

From what I saw, it says TCU will bring it's entire athletics department to the Big East. Not just football like some suspected.

The Big East is much more of a bball conference mainly because the bball conference started before the football did and then teams like Villanova, Providence, and St. John's either don't have football teams are not D-1AA

In general the Big East needs more 2-sport colleges like TCU, but I would miss seeing Syracuse play against teams like Villanova, Providence, St. Johns and Georgetown. I was/am hoping that UCF joins because I live 2 miles from there.

I always have wondered what a National NCAA conference would look like if you had a conference that took colleges from across the nation. The Big East is starting to get to that point.

That is the most rediculous thing I have heard regarding this situation in months.

This is a drag. I really felt like the Mountain West Conference was on the verge of becoming a major conference. This will only hurt that effort. TCU and Boise St. every year would have been very good for college football. Now, I think TCU kinda falls off the map, so to speak. They are joining a conference with no geo rivals and I honestly don't see them developing any. The Big East Consists of:

Cincy (Ohio)
UConn (Connecticut)
DePaul (Illinois)
Georgetown (D.C.)
Louisville (Kentucky)
Marquette (Wisconsin)
Notre Dame (Indiana - Basketball Only)
Pitt (Pennsylvania)
Providence (Rhode Island)
Rutgers (New Jersey)
St. Johns (New York)
Seton Hall (New Jersey)
USF (Florida)
Syracuse (New York)
Villanova (Pennsylvania)
West Virginia (West Virginia)

I mean, how the heck are you even going to travel that? It's horrible.

You got to admit, they haven't exactly fallen all over themselves to put TCU on their schedule. TCU definitely put out the offers to play them.

Ohio State just talked garbage about Boise State and TCU and TCU's athletic director straight up challenged Ohio State. It was basically a put up or shut up. He said and I quote: "Anytime. Anyplace. Anywhere," he challenged. "Buckeyes against the Horned Frogs. Tee it up. Let's go."

Ohio State's response. Silence.

Alabama thought the same thing in January 2009. They were ranked #4 and decided to play Utah. Non-BCS team. The Tide got whipped 31-17.

No way TCU falls off the map. They are now a BCS team. The other BCS teams will finally agree to put them on their schedule. This boosts TCU. It's Boise State that just took a punch to the nose since they are now entering a conference that no longer has TCU to give them high ranked competition.

I guess we'll see. I can't even remember who the last BCS school was from the Big East. I think your wrong but time will tell.

The only thing TCU adds is on the football field. They are pretty average most of the time everywhere else. But outside of athletics, TCU adds nothing that the Big 12 does not have already. That's why they are not in the Big 12 today and never will be. UT and A&M is not interested in recreating the SWC and northern part of the Big 12 was not interested in seeing another Texas school in the conference. They already believe there's too many anyway.

But TCU doesn't add the DFW market. The Big 12 already has that.

Cincinnati. They were pretty good last year, but got owned by Florida (everyone gets owned by the SEC though)

Your memory must suck. ;) The Cincinnati Bearcats were 12-0 and ranked I believe #5 last year entering the Sugar Bowl against Tim Tebow and the Flordia Gators. They ended up losing that game though.

The point being really is that the Bearcats didn't deserve to be ranked above TCU or Boise State last year, but they were. Why? BCS. The Bearcat's defense was suspect. They had a great offense. Boise State had both a great offense and great defense and yet took a backseat to the Bearcats.

Wrong. Ohio State tried to schedule TCU in 2007 for a game in 2009 and TCU declined.

It does. I'm trying to forget this year.

Tell those wussies to step up now. They have been served with a challenge after talking smack, yet they stand as quiet as a mouse.

Ohio State is probably lucky they didn't play TCU that year. They may not have even gotten to the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State should jump all over it if they actually think TCU is a subpar team. They already got *****-slapped by Wisconsin who is ranked above them. Stamford (also ranked above them) would probably decimate them too. TCU is ranked over both Stamford and Wisconsin but is a subpar opponent in their eyes. It sounds like the perfect opponent for Ohio State! ;)

...of course, TCU probably wants a bigger fish than little ole Ohio State. You know, a National Championship quality opponent. :muttley:

A respectable Cincy team made it last year. Of course, their coach jumped ship but whatever.

For the past few weeks I've been complaining about a sad sack Pittsburgh team having the inside track to the Fiesta. Well that problem has been solved and we don't need to worry about Pitt. Instead we have the ever sadder sack UConn Huskies on the inside track to the Fiesta. :banghead:

Really? Sounds like you have Buckeyes hate-itis. I just pointed out that they tried to schedule TCU in 09. TCU would have about 3-4 losses in the Big 10 including Ohio State. It's one thing to win some one shot bowl game against a BCS school but to go through a schedule week in and out will take it's toll on a team like TCU.

Nah, why would I hate Ohio State? Currently I only hate Notre Dame and Arkansas. My Arkansas hate is only because that piece of **** Bobby Petrino is their head coach.

Notre Dame I hate because of everything their greedy ***** stand for.
