TCU joins the Big East as of July 1, 2012

I would go one step further and say that there is very serious talk of including the Mountain West as a BCS Conference as early as 2013. I imagine that this will probably not happen with the departure of TCU (unless the MWC brings in another respectable football school). There is also talk that the Big East could lose there BCS rights. The BCS is by no means stable and I would not be surprised to see some of those schools jump if given the opportunity. The positive is that TCU gains a share of the East Coast Market but I don't really know if that will help a great deal or not considering the over all costs associated.

The three criteria used to establish AQ status among the 11 conferences in the first place was rank of the highest-ranked team, rank of all conference teams, and number of teams in the top 25. By those criteria, the ACC is right now probably behind the Big East.

And with Utah and BYU leaving the Mountain West, TCU probably didn't see much chance of reaching AQ status. With Boise, BYU, Utah, TCU, and Nevada all in the Mountain West (as once seemed possible), it would have been interesting to say the least. But now? If its an automatic bid you want, you're better off in the Big East.

I don't agree with this. I agree that they are not ideally suited in the Mountain West but geographically, they are much better suited in the Mountain West then they are in the Big East. If you only look at the closest school, then that argument seems fine but if you look at the whole picture, it's not. As part of the Big East, you don't only support your travel but you contribute to the support of all of the schools in the conference. In the case of ND, you don't even share there football revenue but you will be responsible for contributing to pay for all of their other sports expenses. You've got 6 schools that are literally on the Atlantic Seaboard with several almost as far. In the Mountain West, you have only SDSt. and Fresno joining in 2013 that are located on the West Coast.
I don't know much about the financials, but man that is going to be a hellacious travel schedule for other sports - I'm thinking specifically of basketball. Football shouldn't be too bad since you'll only have about 4 road conference games a year.

Yeah, he is talking out of his ***. TCU has had several nationally televised games this year. They don't do that if they don't generate interest. A hell of a lot more than Baylor and Iowa State.

Obviously you two do not understand the situation. Texas, Oklahoma and A&M already have to split their superior TV revenue with the rest of the teams in the conference. You add another team that doesn't generate it's own share of the revenue and the big 3 will have to cover that team as well. I'm sure they command a higher national audience than Baylor or Iowa State but that does not factor into the equation.

Ohio State president: I'll stick to academics

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)

Ohio State president Gordon Gee says he'll stick to academics from now on and leave football to his athletic director and Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel.

Gee has been criticized for telling The Associated Press last week that teams from the Big Ten and SEC deserve to play in BCS bowl games because they play a ''murderer's row'' of opponents and ''we do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor.''

He said Boise State and TCU did not deserve to play for the national title, even if they went undefeated.

Gee told the Columbus Dispatch on Wednesday that he should not have gotten involved and ''what I should do is go over to the surgical suites and get my foot extricated from my mouth.''

''What do I know about college football?'' he said. ''I look like Orville Redenbacher.''
