I love football. In my opinion, it's the greatest sport in the world. Everyone should have an opportunity to play and enjoy it. The few, who work for the golden opportunity of getting paid to play such a great sport, are lucky <expletives> but no amount of money is worth losing essentially what makes you you. Prayers for Dorsett and anyone else, ex- or current player, football player or non-football player, suffering from brain functioning deficits brought on by CTE and other ailments.

Actually this news came out 2 years ago.

Tony Dorsett battling CTE
Feb 9, 2015
ESPN.com news services

Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett, who was diagnosed with having signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in 2013, said he is "in a battle" and that he had no idea "that the end was going to be like this."

CTE is a degenerative condition many scientists say is caused by head trauma and is linked to depression and dementia. It is indicated by a buildup of tau, an abnormal protein that strangles brain cells in areas that control memory, emotions and other functions.

Dorsett was diagnosed along with Joe DeLamielleure and Leonard Marshall in November 2013 after undergoing brain scans and clinical evaluations at UCLA.

I was not aware this was a secret. Heart breaking to hear the guy acknowledge it though.

I wonder if we could all enjoy a different version of football. More like flag football than full contact football. I am with you, it is hard to watch a game that is debilitating and killing its players. I stopped watching Boxing a long time ago because of that.

To be honest I struggle with this information. I too love Pro Football.
I stopped watching boxing because of the damage it does to young men.
I grow up in a boxing family my father was a pro middle weight in the golden age of boxing.

I am an enormous combat sports fan (both boxing and MMA).

Meldrick Taylor is one of the saddest cases EVER.

Gotta get rid of HGH they ruined sports
My bad to elaborate I feel like some players that get away with it probably make the sport a little more dangerous. Probably way off topic I'm sorry for TD to young to watch him play :(

Full contact football should be banned. CTE is rampant throughout the sport.

Or scientific improvements in football gear may some day minimize the chances of developing CTE. Who knows? I think there is a greater likelihood that innovators will find ways of improving true player safety than essentially abolishing the sport. That's not what you're saying or implying but removing full contact from football basically changes it's fundamental format. An alternative is flag football, which is fun but I doubt it ever enjoys nearly the level of popularity that present-day football does.

Until technology can make the sport safe, it should be banned.

I hope you mean technology that will provide safety prevention from incurring certain life debilitating or life threatening injuries. All physical organized activities or sports carries some degree of injury related risk. I do agree with you somewhat but I try looking at the practical side. Football is a highly popular sport with a long history of non-CTE related injuries that have permanently scarred and even killed players. Even the threat of something as vile as CTE will not be enough to ban the sport in my opinion.
