TD to Kennison?

According to what they were saying on ESPN while showing the highlights they were saying "The LB needed to be dropping deeper in the zone. Dallas had the help over the top but the backers were not dropping back quick enough"

Exactly..Either Fujita has to carry his guy into the deep zone (which I think is the case here) or Bradie James should have realized there was no threat in his area and drop back deep and pick up the TE.

Right on the money Hustler, you can tell by the way Newman jammed him and played underneath that it was a zone scheme. Even more telling was when TNEW started to give chase and you could see him looking to the interior of the field with a ***! look and looking for whomever blew the assignment.

Yeah, I felt for Newman on that play. Dude is playing his heart out and some idiot blows it. Newman is becoming a leader of this defense. I wish we could have signed Darren Sharper. :(

James was in good position.

Newman jammed Kennison, released him to the inside, then played zone in the left flat -- all exactly as he should have. There was another receiver in Newman's zone, so he couldn't cheat and drop any deeper. Kennison caught the pass 34 yards past the line of scrimmage, which obviously makes him the safety's responsibility in a cover 2. Even if he doesn't get there in time to break up the pass, he has to get there in time to tackle the receiver when he catches it.

So, since he took an inside route we agree...right?

nice designed play. would'nt have mattered if fugi had dropped back he can't cover kennison. the catch was because of a well designed play. the td was because of poor safety play. they did fllod his zone but he still has to get in a position to make a tackle even if he could'nt stop the pass

If Davis just gets in the right position, it may change the whole play. Trent Green saw him out of position and knew he had an easy throw. If he sees Davis sitting back in good position, Green may hesitate to make the throw, come off the receiver, change the exact spot where the ball was thrown or anything that may change the dynamics of the play.
