Honestly I couldnt care less if they did. He's old and has absolutely no upside whatsoever. I wish they'd trade a premium pick or two for him. Either the Eagles or Skins too.

I remember seeing a SI issue before the draft when he came out. We ended up taking LaFleur, but Troy was throwing with Gonzalez in the picture on the article.

That would've been a nice safety net for an aging Aikman. Ditto to hurling bombs to Moss. Oh well, hindsight.

Hindsight? Kansas City traded up pretty high to get him. The Cowboys didn't have a choice.

Gonzalez was taken like 10 picks before we drafted. You make it sound like we passed on Gonzalez to take LeFleur.

Yeah he was long gone but I like to ponder what ifs.

The Chiefs traded up 5 spots from 18 to 13 just to nab him, we would had to not only jump in front of the Chiefs original #18 spot, but also up past the same teams the Chiefs leap frogged to take him.

They traded a 1st, 3rd, 4th, and sixth round pick for the Oilers 1st, and 4th. Imagine what we would of had to give up to move up from 25.

I was just speaking hypothetically. Hindsight was the wrong word, my bad.

The details of the deal KC made to get Gonzo........

The Chiefs moved up five spots in the first round of the ‘97 NFL Draft to select Gonzalez with the 13th overall selection in a draft-day trade with Houston.

The Chiefs obtained the Oilers first-round pick (13th overall - used on Gonzalez) and their fourth-round pick (110th overall - used on QB Pat Barnes) in exchange for Kansas City’s original first-round selection (18th overall - used on DE Kenny Holmes), a third-round pick (81st overall - used on T Scott Sanderson), a fourth-round pick (116th overall - subsequently traded by Houston to New Orleans) and a sixth-round selection (181st overall - used on LB Dennis Stallings)

The real question is...

What if we had passed on Greg Ellis?

To be fair to Mr. Ellis, he was the only Defensive Lineman in the first round that year to ever make a pro bowl... albeit, he made it as a Linebacker later in his career.

Don't get me started. I was so "ticked" that day. My thinking was if they didn't want to gamble with a high pick on him why not trade down until it made sense.

I was hoping for Keith Brooking. Now we have him! I just wish we would have had him during his prime though.

I still dont get all the Ellis bashing by you people. Ellis has been a better player at a more important position (pass rusher) than Brooking has been a LB. In fact Ellis has been a far better pro than several guys picked BEFORE he was as well. People like Andre Wadsworth, Curtis Enis, Kyle Turley and Grant Wistrom. Go back and look at the people drafted in the 1st rd of 1998, Ellis is definitely one of the better ones.

I'm just telling you who I wanted in that draft at the time. You have to remember that our track record with drafting DEs was pretty abysmal at the time. In my mind, Brooking was a sure thing and Ellis wasn't.

The Eagles were very interested last year and almost pulled the trigger, let's hope they don't this year as I feel Tony has a good year or two left in him.
