Since people are playing the what if thing I thought this would be fun to mention.

I was watching the 10 greatest draft day trades the other day and the #1 was San Fran getting Jerry Rice.

Until I watched this show I didn't know that only 2 teams were interested in taking Rice, cause he was from that small school. One being Bill Walsh of the Niners, obviously, and the other was Tom Landry.

That's right Tom Landry.

Apparently had the Niners not leap frogged us to the 16th pick then Landry had planned, all along, to take Rice with the 17th pick to give Danny White the WR he desperately was in need of at that time.

Just imagine how much possibly changes for the Cowboys if they get Rice that day. I don't imagine we'd have drafted Irvin a few years later (Though that's just a guess) and it's possible that we'd have not fallen off quite so much to be the #1 pick in 1989, though again that's just a guess.

Still it's interesting to think about how different things might have been had the Niners not been able to leap in front of us and take Rice one pick before we could.

We took Mike Sherrard who would have been a Good WR if he didn't keep breaking his leg.

I really can't blame Tony for wanting a trade.

He's busted his butt for the Chiefs for years and the team has gone no where.

He wants to play the last year or two of his career, in some meaningful games.

The Chiefs traded up 5 spots from 18 to 13 just to nab him, we would had to not only jump in front of the Chiefs original #18 spot, but also up past the same teams the Chiefs leap frogged to take him.

They traded a 1st, 3rd, 4th, and sixth round pick for the Oilers 1st, and 4th. Imagine what we would of had to give up to move up from 25.

Imagine that it would have been worth it.

Exactly what he said.

Any ideas of where he'll land? Browns?

As someone who lived near KC for the last 8 years i saw alot of coverage about the chiefs. You couldnt ask for a better guy on your team than Tony. This guy is a class act on and off the field and wants to compete. I cannot condemn the guy for wanting out of KC. He has been their only bright spot for years. You think he liked their chances when they brought in Trent Green? Herm Edwards? This one is the best though. Brodie Croyle? Come on guys get off the guys back. He wants to finish with a winner. I say go for it Tony just please dont come to NFC East. He still has alot of ball left in him. JMO

Considering the only good choice we made that year was Dexter Coakley... I'd say probably so.

We also could of had Jason Taylor or Ronde Barber with that Dexter Coakley pick FWIW.

I still ponder "what if we had taken Moss".

Moss would have made some highlight reels in a Cowboys uniform.

Dallas would still not make a big splash in the playoffs because the defense and the offensive line were still not great and would still be the limiting factor of the team. Plus Chan Gailey would not know what to do with Moss just like he didn't know what to do with Michael Irvin.

Moss would have probably gotten in more off field trouble in Dallas than he was in while in Minnesota. He probably also would not have played more than 5 or 6 seasons in Dallas before moving on.

That is what would have happened.

That was in 1986 the year after Rice was drafted in 1985 by the 49ers. I agree that Sherrard would have been a good receiver if not for the leg problems.
