TE position could see some changes!

I hate to tell everyone who has adopted Trigg as their pet cat, but the TE depth chart at 1-2-3 is more than likely going to look exactly the same this year sans injury. Competition will ultimately decide, but the odds are what they are.

Reading this thread reminded me how much I disliked twinkle toes Bradie James. No one got pushed back and taken out of the play and made a tackle 8 yards downfield like Bradie

Don't underestimate Trigg. He will make the 53 and depending on how well he picks up the playbook, he will get some snaps. The Cowboys won't call on him to block until he learns but on passing plays he can make an impact.
What tight end in the league.has the longest wingspan?
We’re talking about two different things.

I am pointing out that we lack a top tier tight end on the roster. A true difference maker.

I’ve been high on Trigg in the draft lead up and had him in my 20 pick contest in the draft zone and I get the pet cat factor with him.

Him getting some snaps is not going to solve our issue.

We lack a tight end weapon and it would be a miracle if an UDFA ends up being an upper tier player. You have to draft for that.

Rambo - the Underwear Olympics are well and good but they don’t give out all pro for wingspan

I wouldn't trade a Whataburger combo meal for Schoonmaker on his $2M 2026 salary.

Ferguson's got some game, but his legs are dead. He's got a floor as a checkdown guy but zero ceiling above that, kind of like an end-of-the-line Witten.

BSF's got a little game. I would be willing to expand his role with more snaps (at Fergy and Schoonmaker's expense), and see what he makes of them.
Accurate post.

Jake Ferguson had a nice bounce back season, 80 plus catches and 8 TD's. Most of his catches are more underneath check down, but they are very important for the offense. Games that he did struggle, the offense did the same, which suggests his importance to the unit.

Schoonmaker a former 2nd rd pick that has failed to make much of an impact. Now in his contract season where he will be fighting to earn a roster spot, he may even be a prime trade candidate.

Spann-Ford-he is also will be playing on his final contract year. Was making an early impact in camp before an injury took place. More of just a high end run blocker at this point. He also isn't guaranteed a roster spot.

Fant-he is that depth piece at the position which the team can control at a low rate.

Luepke-he has the versatility to play RB/FB/TE where the staff thinks highly of his skillset. They have said that want to find more ways to get him involved within the offense, also a strong special team player that makes him a roster lock.

Trigg/DJ Rogers both received 200k guarantee money to sign with the team. Both will have the opportunity to win a roster spot. Trigg has a skillset that the others just don't have in the passing game, which makes him a player to watch.

Im over Ferguson. We need athletic TEs like the better offenses have. Ferguson is another Witten type. Possession player with low YAC yards. Im tired of that type of TE in Dallas.

He is more important than you think. His catches underneath opens up the likes of Lamb and Pickens.

Maybe it's just you that has the issue.

Wonder how many we are keeping?
Leupke is an FB or TE on the final roster........it matters IMO.
You would think the Cowboys would be interested in having a 13 personnel package like the Rams and take advantage before the defenses figure it out. That means at least three or four deep at TE.... The fact that we're basically running a training center for developing OL might mean we keep extra OL though.

I definitely respect your take, but I want one of those TEs that is an actual athletic threat to take it to the house. He hasn't been that.

Do the Cowboys really need one other than Ferg?
Yes. Ferg is an average tight end, at best, and current offensive trends are trying to outpace recent defensive packages built to contain the spread

More and more jumbo packages were seen last year and will be seen this year.

It would be great to be able to do both, but Ferguson has his worth. Also important to the run game. Schultz was better as a receiver but was awful as a blocker. Trigg has that down the seem Skill set but he is more of a big receiver. Key would be finding a way to use both skill sets

so, do you think it is possible to have Pickens, Cee Dee , (Dak and his contract) and then have a Bowers as well? Not a chance.

Ferguson is good and fits the offense perfectly. Triggs has a spectacular skillset from the videos Ive seen. Lets hope he hits for us.
Yep. We could use another Flournoy sort of breakout, but in the TE room.

That would be nice to have a 2 TE set that actually threatened defenses with an explosive playmaker TE in Triggs + Spann-Ford mauling in the run game, no offense to Fergusson.

A package with Pickens, Lamb, Flournoy, and Trigg could be alao interesting if he figures out the pro game.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Schoonmaker is vulnerable to being traded in the event one of several promising candidates are available in the days ahead. Trigg and DJ Rogers might be two of those who would tempt this FO to consider such actions. Fant is yet another who might be traded if the temptation to do so is there, even though his contract is highly affordable. The desires for talent upgrades for those players might be seriously considered if the difference in talent is obvious.

No. You are giving him enough credit. He is better than average.

The Cowboys have plenty of offensive weapons. Adding another is resources that should be spent on putting at least an average defense on the field.

Fant spends a lot of time on the PS and no one has plucked him. He has no trade value. Schoon I have no idea.

I get what you are saying in a sense. Everyone wants the dynamic, big play TE. BUT I don't think it's necessarily Ferg's fault that he is used more in the traditional sense. With 2 #1 receivers & a top 5 RB (at least for most of the season) there are only so many balls to go around. I think if he were on a team that needed him to do more down field, he could. He did so earlier in his career.

I am much more interested in seeing them upgrade the rest of the TE group by getting away from Schoon.

If the Cowboys try and make Trigg a traditional TE that would be stupid Garrett’esqe type of square peg round hole scenario.

I have faith Schotty sees Trigg’s potential as a receiver and just get him on the field.
