Team Identity

This team found an identity when a teammate passed away and another faced scrutiny none of us would like. The problem is, by that time they were too depleted to do much and it was too late in the season. I like the fight they showed, on both sides of the football. Add some talent, get some guys back, and I will believe we can reach potential. I'm not blaming any of the coaches for the injuries. Both sides need work.

But I don't agree that there is no identity.

I agree by the end of the season we didnt have enough ammo .
I disagree where you say we have an identity .

What is it ?

On offense i say were a passing team that cant pass block or handle the blitz very well . Cant run the ball . On top of that the most success we have had is coming from behind no huddle .

On defense we are a bend but dont break soft defense .

You can rule out any of the following about our teams identity

smart - no , see jason garrett

disciplined - no again see above

tough - mentally, this team pretty much folds when it mattersthe past few years

physically - weve helped more players up than tackled . lol

If we have an identity is sure isnt a good one .

Teams don't really get identities until they win a lot. Or, I guess, lose a lot. Either way, it's a function of the play on the field more than what a coach does to forge an identity.

I don't think we play with no emotion. Do you really think that? I think we're not good enough, but we play with emotion. I believe everybody on this team likes everybody else and that they play hard. And I think Garrett's probably much less of a robot when he's not talking to the press (listen to his most recent interview re: this at dc.com if you haven't already, it's pretty good). He's still going to be a process and technique dork, I'm sure. But I bet he's got a bit more fire to him than you see when he's in front of a mic.

I like his demeanor a lot, mostly because he's reserved like Landry was reserved. I think that's what a lot of us old-school guys really love about him. Also, he played here. Also, he's really smart. I'll take a smart guy over a bombastic loudmouth every time all else being equal.
For the most part, yes. I think there are a handful of guys who play with emotion...romo, DeMarco, Dez, Lee, Witten,...but I don't think the team as a whole does. I don't think it has for a long, long time. I think it's possible that the Cowboys are growing into a more emotional unit, but as a whole, I think a lot of the guys just consider this a job.

I don't mind JG being stoic, don't get me wrong. But without emotional leaders, a coach has to find a way to fire his players up. Dungy always had Peyton in Indy and a handful of guys to do that in TB. JG doesn't have that. And, I don't buy into the whole JG is such a smart guy thing. In terms of football intelligence, I don't think he has shown very much.
