This makes me wonder if they will trade out of the first round and stay cap friendly. I am not saying you need to do that, but if you get picks for next year when the cap won't be much of an issue you may be better off. Though if you believe Stephen Jones, the cap is NEVER an issue. In other related news, the sun still rises in the East and sets in the West except on draft days and on game days...

With the new CBA, the cost of draft picks is not too bad. The 16th pick in 2013 had a cap hit of 1.6M for his rookie year.

When Garrett first was a HC it looked like we were recreating the 90s offense. I formation with play action off it. Then the last two years it turns into Mike Martz 5 WR throw it 50 times a game unless they lost the game before by throwing it too much then he runs it to quiet the critics.

Bottom line is even though Kyle Orton did by all accounts a pretty good job given the situation of having not played much the last 2 years, he never should have been asked to throw over 40 times that game. 30-of-46 is crazy compared to just 18 runs, 17 by DeMarco. It would be one thing if we were down 35-0 but when its a low scoring game, you run the ball.

I am the biggest Garrett supporter but the last couple games of the year beginning with the GB debacle makes me question if he understands philosophy of winning as opposed to trying to outsmart everyone.

It's not just the cap for the current year, it's finding more "cheap" players. I've always thought that if you move back and get more picks and more players that fit your mold you are better off in the long run. I also want some of the more expensive players to not be needed. Just saying is all...But because I don't know what type of team we are...Lord only knows what Jerry will do. I just hope he will follow a plan and not reach or do "odd" things...

Here is my approach. There is no one safe on this team. Not Romo, not Witten, not T. Smith, etc. The players are just cogs. Sometimes you just don't fit the mold. However, what does this team want to be? Teams that can run and stop you from running force the action. The Cowboys want to be fancy, but they are neither tough enough nor smart enough to be that (in my opinion). I used to laugh at the Raiders for all the personal fouls they would get, but there was always a part of me that loved it from a pure football point of view. You want someone that would rather slap the @#$@% out of you, then to go gentle into the night. I want players that fight and will make you think they are unstable without saying a word. Think about how Charles Haley was viewed. He wasn't a big talker, but he would do odd things to people and even Jimmy Johnson had to "learn" what motivated him.

Who on this team or in the draft is someone you want to go to war with? Who on the offensive line will actually hurt a linemen trying to sack the QB? I don't mean dirty play, but he wants to make a DE or DT just give up and quit? Who on the DL will make OTs false start and have them guessing all day? Who can sack the QB and get up without jumping around. Who can act like "this is my job and I don't seek praise for doing just that?" I want someone that sacks the QB, doesn't help them up, doesn't say a word but gives them that quick look like "I'll be back so you may want to start worrying about the sideline and the icepacks you'll need."

I love the Cowboys and root for the team, but I don't care who makes and doesn't make the team. I want winners. If you have no fight, get cut and go stock groceries for all I care. Again, you start with players that are closest to the line of scrimmage. You want players that attack and play hard. Football IQ should be high. If you have to teach them to be aggressive, don't draft them, don't keep them and do your best to get them on someone else's team. They are losers and will give up. The mind controls the body not the other way around. If you think you can win, you can't. You have to KNOW.

While I'm at it...I would pay big money to see some coach to yell at Tony Romo the first time he pulls a "Romo" in a game and just blast him in person, in front of the team and in the media. Push the envelope. Think Parcells, Johnson, Walsh, Lombardi and even at times Landry. They didn't pull punches and would go down with the ship. Garrett needs to make it his team. If Jerry doesn't like it, fire him, but don't keep a man's testicles in your pocket and then complain he's not MANLY enough. I just want to see one voice on this team and Jerry isn't it.

You are making some good points. One of the best of all is not caring about who makes this team and who doesn't. You can see that many fans are not capable of this by reading threads on this board. They have an emotional attachment to the players and will defend them to the bitter end. I tend to agree with you . I don't care if it is Romo, Witten, Dez , etc that is playing. If they can't do the job, get rid of them. No player should feel as if they are untouchable.

our philosophy is the same as everyone else, im not going to shock you, but its no secret. ready? to win. If that means you abandon your plan because said WR is having a great day, you hit him all day long. If your defense is wining the game, you ride that bad boy. I believe no matter how we try to break things down, the same is said of all teams. score more points than the other team. How you go about it is up to you.

Now you want to talk philosophy or facts, here comes the email about banning. Lately Garrett is finding new and exotic ways of giving up games. He has no established any said identity. Yes some teams believe in defense all teh way but I think thats our memories from seasons past. I used to think of the NY Giants as a defensive smash mouth football type of team. Some teams as solid football teams but they change up with the trends, and lately some try to be offensive juggarnauts, and lets face it, thats hard to maintain. What ha Garrett really tried to intstill in this team. Laugh at Phillips all you want, but i believe under him our offensive line tried to impose its will upon the other team. Unfortunetaly his defense always came up short. Inever liked Brian Stewart, but Phillips believed in him.

I just dont see anything under Garrett. I had thought he would have a competitive team, i really did his first year and even his first lost against the Giants i was proud of what he had tried to do. lately, he just seems lost. THan i thought ok, hes going to try the little guy theory, that we dont have to have superstars to have a winning team. Injuries aside, really didnt pan out. Overall at 8-8 for the past three seasons and using the last game of the season to give it all away, I really cant in my heart of hearts find something that Garrett can say, "this is what i beleived in and this is what you saw on the field".

I am not a Murray fan and his running style behind the line of scrimmage. I also don't care for the oft injured player. I can love my own son, but if I am being honest I don't want him in a position to fail. I think Murray can be as good as health and mindset would have it, but I wouldn't bet on it. Again, don't let players feel safe, apply the pressure and see who succeeds. Just my opinion...that's all.

Injuries aside, you cannot deny his production.

How about a Center? Is that sexy? If not, then I contend the foundation work started LAST draft... ;)

Nononono jerry has to make a splash, ALWAYS. I mean look at the last draft as an example...

He leaves yards on the field. If you watch his running style it's sloppy behind the line of scrimmage. He's better once he's past the linebackers...and great in the open field. I just want him to get back the muck and learn to pick up his feet.

Can anyone definitively say what our philosophy is? Over the last couple of seasons I've heard JG run off about how important the run game is and how we were going to focus in on it. We then had a 70/30 pass to run ratio in most of our games.

One of the problems with this team is we don't really have a philosophy and or if we do have one, it changes from game to game and year-to-year. It does not surprise me at all when I read that this team lacks identity.

I can understand not being sold on Murray. I feel the same way. I want to like him, but the injuries are a problem.

I don't know what to make of him but the injuries concern me. I'm thinking don't resign him. Get a young cheaper RB next year.

He's very solid. I liked him coming out of Oklahoma. But his vision in the open field is lacking. Too many times he runs straight into defenders instead of making them miss. He hits the hole well and I like his physical running style. But I want to see him extend some of his runs. Instead of 4 yards and a cloud of dust.

He's not got a lot of missem'.

I'm sorry, but that is laughable when you consider he ranked 11th in total yards with the highest YPC in the league, while missing two games.

watch the film...read the papers and even the coaches mention it. Perhaps it's the OL...but I just don't care for the running style. Personally, I want a better running back and one that doesn't just rip off long runs, but can get the 4 or 5 yards when it's tough sledding.

Football Outsiders' DVOA metric punishes guys who have a lot of losses and short gains mixed in with their long ones. Murray led the league in DVOA last year. He's not at all what you're describing.

That said, I don't give second contracts to running backs.

I'm simple (punchlines and jokes aside) I just watch the games and see the yards left on the field. I often wonder if he has vision issues. He rans into the back of the OL. So if you use some common sense and just draft a better OL and call plays that allow for any RB to have a chance, you'll be better off. I don't like signing RBs to long term contracts, but I will say this..give me an Emmitt or Tony...and I'll take that chance.

It all falls on reds shoulders. Pick a lane and stay in it!

Well they weren't happy about it, but they made a wise choice in Zach Martin. Get linemen. There are now three first round players on the line. They are all young and still cheap. Do the same on defense and then worry about the skill players after the trenches are solidified.
