Team Under Construction

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round. The wheels on the bus go round and round.
We were getting close in 2014. If we could have continued for a few years with that offense while getting closer to a defense like this I believe the results would have been more favorable.

So, in an essence we are in a rebuilding , at least retooling mode as Couch Coach suggest. The difference in turning the clock up faster is if this QB is the one.

Best drafted QB since 1989. We all hope Dak Prescott is the QB I believe he is.

In 3 years.....Sean Lee, Zeke Elliott, Tyron Smith, Demarcus Lawrence, Cole Beasley, Allen Hurns, Tyrone Crawford, Randy Gregory, Terrance Williams, and others will likely all be gone.

If the franchise really believes Dak is the guy, they have to strike right now.

Best run game in the league. Very promising defense that could be elite quickly with the right signing or two. A talented, although unproven, group of receivers with speed.

Now. This is a one-year league if you have a QB you believe in.

The Chargers, Chiefs, and Falcons will challenge that contention about us having the best running game in the NFL.

That really isn’t saying much.
2002. Quincy Carter
2009 Stephen McGee
2016 Dak Prescott
2018 Mike White

Yeah, it tells you how much they value the position and also a large reason why we've stunk for the most part since 1995. If it weren't for Romo, Jerrah's precious revenue stream would probably be in more danger than it is right now.

No doubt.

Romo almost single handily prevented Jerry from more of the 5-11 Funk for an entire era which also provided the Football Idiot the ability to continue his pursuit of trying to prove he could win his way.

When Zeke has played, it's really not even close.
Elliott wasn’t as dominating last year in the games he played. I think the whole ordeal messed with his head and performance and who could blame him. And why he should have taken the punishment and moved on. I think the season might have turned out differently.

This year will be an opportunity for him to return to his All Pro level from his Rookie season. I think he could surpass it. I don’t think we’ve seen his best football yet .

Gallup, Austin and the TE "corp" will be crucial to Elliott's success. As will a suddenly shaky line's ability to protect Prescott.

I think with a healthy Romo or other QB they were sure about, ET would be here. Their reluctance in doing anything big tells me they have reservations.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in our front office, but my guess is that Seattle is asking too much for ET. They aren't going to give up even 1 season of All-Pro safety play on the cheap, and we aren't willing to pull another Roy Williams deal to get him.

The difference was Foles got over his usual top in that playoff run and Flacco was just asked not to screw it up and make the plays when they were there. Same as McMahon, Dilfer and Johnson. Don't bury the D with mistakes and we can win.

But with all the hoopla with QB's, Brees and Rodgers have one ring each and Flacco and E. Manning have 2. They still have the build the team to sustain it.

Yep. A HOF quarterback can drag a bad team to 10 wins every year, but they're going to struggle to beat a good team when the chips are down. On the flip side of that, if you have an otherwise loaded team, you can contend even with mediocre quarterback play. SF went to 3 straight NFC championships under Harbaugh with Alex Smith and Colin Crappernick pulling the trigger. Phlly went to 5 in 8 years with Donovan McNabb, who wasn't a bad QB but he was no Aaron Rodgers either. You need a complete team to win, especially a defense.

On a side note, I think that Mike McCarthy is kind of the Jason Garrett of the north. Just unimaginative, totally reliant on superior talent (read: Rodgers) to win, and yet he keeps getting season after season despite his proven mediocrity. I think the management sort of sees him like Garrett - he's a safe pair of hands who's not going to screw anything up, so they're going to keep him around for another year and roll the dice on Rodgers going on one of his unstoppable hot streaks.

I wouldn’t say we are necessarily ridding the defense this season. I say that because the 1’s on offense haven’t played much this preseason. Zeke hasn’t played a snap and Dak has played minimum. The 53 man roster has been just about set and playing certain players this preseason is due to that. We aren’t even using a regular season playbook.

It's going to be tough.

Teams are going to stack the box with 8 or 9 frequently, especially with Frederick out now. It'll take 10-15 great throws from Dak this season before teams back out of that.

That's the book. Jam the receivers and stuff the run on early downs, sit in a zone and make Dak throw under it on 3rd down. They've got to hit more chunk plays to scare teams out of that.

That's why I think the Chargers, Chiefs, and Falcons have a better running game than we do. The Falcons have two outstanding backs. The Chargers #1 back has been a consistently great, top-notch RB. Zeke had one great season and one very uneven season. I do know that when the chips are down, Zeke is a quitter (ref Denver int game last year). Zeke is "all in" when the team is winning, but mark my words, he will underperform this season especially when the losses begin to stack up. I'll apologize to the forum if I'm wrong. :)

I think he cares more than a quitter like Dez does, if he doesn't, then he definitely wasn't worth the 4th overall pick in the draft.
