I work with a Bills fan and was berating him for trading away his team's first-round pick... thus dooming me to wait hours before participating in the mock.

Anyway, he claimed that Losman would be the number one overall pick if he were in the draft this year.

That might be a little overblown, but looking at his competition for the best QB (Smith and Rodgers) he'd probably be in the mix. He'd certainly go higher than #20 if he were in the draft this year. Not a horrible trade on their part I suppose. Of course we also got a #2 and a #5 in the deal.

CBZ will be listing the official rules this weekend. To summarize some of your thoughts:

Trades will only be draft picks; no crazy trades for veteran players that are unlikely to ever occur.

Won't be a live chat since teams will likely have three hours to make their picks in the 1st round with the time frame getting progressively smaller in the lower rounds.

We'll keep track of the players being drafted but it's your responsibility to make sure your pick hasn't been drafted yet. If you select Alex Smith at #18 and he was gone at #3, you'll not only be ridiculed by us but you may have your turn skipped if we can't quickly contact you.

Again, you should approach this by having targets in each round that you are shooting for. You should do a bit of homework on your team's needs yourself and have a list of who will likely be available at that time.

So as far as trades go, I have the Colt's. I couldn't trade him to say the Dolphins for their first round pick. Or any other pick for that matter? Even though that was something that was discussed. Is that what you mean, or only picks can be traded?

If I understand you correctly, you mean trade Edge to the Dolphins for the #2 overall. That wouldn't be permissible.

Problem is that if you let something like that slide then everyone will want to do it. It's best to keep it simple and just trade picks. Player movement is a rarity in the draft anyway.

It's like the Howard thing. I ended up getting the Cowboys by dumb luck but I wouldn't trade the #2 for Howard even though it's been discussed. I personally would, but I won't for this mock draft.
