Micah Parsons is great. No question. But it seems to me that his performance drastically tapers off the last quarter of the season. Is he banged up? I realize those guys' bodies take a ton of punishment. Is he gassed? The season is longer than college. Is he immature? He's still a kid, granted a hugely talented kid, but I wonder if that goes to his head too much.

Tell me where I'm wrong and why I'm wrong or just what I'm missing.

His performance doesnt drop off

sacks arent the only indicator of an elite pass rusher...He pressures the QBs at a HIGH rate late in the season and sacks often times are just as lucky as interceptions and also playing on the defensive line you can wreck a game without registering any stats

Micahs play doesnt drop off but at the same time offenses gameplan around micah because they HAVE to....and the fact he was able to generate pressure at a alarming rate albiet with his sack total not being there at the end is a testament that we have a generational talent

lets look at his positives...

All good answers.

Basically, Micah needs a running buddy or three. He needs guys around him so they can't focus on him. Need a DE on the other side who won't be denied and a 3 tech that gets in the QBs face every play.

Micah needs to be moved around the D. Can he play hand in the dirt at DE? Sometimes, but no way should he be played there all the time.

Think it’s a combination of multiple things including perception not being the reality and fans not being able to understand dline play without the easy to follow “sacks” stat. If you watched and listened to the multiple people doing film breakdown there wasn’t an opinion that there was a drop off other than in sacks. That would lead one to believe the issue may have been as much about the people around him as himself. Lawrence played the 2nd half of the season with a foot issue… Armstrong with a banged up knee etc.. The less focus teams have to place on others, the more they can dedicate to him. But yeah, it would be expected and normal for him to wear down throughout the season. Believe I read and article years ago where Demarcus Ware said he would try to get his weight to around 265 before the season opened so he wouldn’t drop below 240 at the end of the season because of endurance issues if he did. Parsons is starting at a lower weight. As long as he’s still creating pressure and forcing teams to have to game plan for him then it’s all good!

Hopefully Sam Williams had a chance to be that guy, while Armstrong can continue be a good rotational player.

A real DT to help collapse the middle

This is precisely why you trade him for 2 number one's now instead of overpaying for a player who will be injured often and possibly ineffective in 2 or 3 years
Oh the horror
I know I like watching the kid too but you could get a blue chip quarterback and a stud defensive tackle which would do as much for your defense as Parsons. Nothing like constant pressure up the gut.

He is still only a second year player in the league. No matter how good you are, you're still going to get an education from the pros on the other side of the ball.

He seems intelligent, focused and motivated. We haven't seen his best yet.

He is not big enough to play a season at DE. He needs to play more LB and get better at that position.

He was banged up some this year and he wears down as the season goes on. Taking on a lot of double teams take their toll on him. He’s having to come off the field a lot for breathers. He looked completely gassed at the end of the regular season.

Does D. Lawrence need a running mate too?

Parsons may struggle to get double digit sacks next season. Not only does he wear down as the season goes on, but teams have figured out a way to limit his effectiveness.

He is being used improperly.
They are using him as a DE way too much.
He is just too small to be rushing the
QB as much as he is.
They need to pick their spots better when they rush him.
Otherwise they're going to wear him out prematurely.

Funny how the board was crying for him to play DE exclusively.. now it’s completely turned around.
