I know that for some, it's simply a matter of a good deal for us and a guy who will help improve our team, from a talent stand point. However, for me, I just can't get behind that. I don't believe Jones is a top 5 CB. I believe that prior to being suspended, he was a top 15 CB. I believe he was a poor team mate and not a good locker room guy. I believe he is a very good punt return man. Having said all this, I just don't want him. To me, it is a question of integrity. For the same reasons I would not take the opportunity to do something illegal in order to make money, even if it were a great deal of money, I do not like this move. It's not about the money or if he is talented. My principles would not allow me to steal money and those same principles will never allow me to approve of this signing, no matter how well he plays or how good the deal is.

Don't expect this position to be popular but it's what I think and I can't change that. Heck, don't want to change that. I will have to live with it.

Yep.

OK. Let's pretend you are right. So our nickel CB is now a top 15 CB in the league. Awesome.

I believe he was a poor team mate and not a good locker room guy. I believe he is a very good punt return man.

Same with Owens. Did you support the Owens signing?

So signing Pacman is like doing something illegal?

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I say he isn't a great corner and the first thing you reply with is "punt returns". Just because a player is really good at one thing, don't assume he's really good at something else.

As for Joyner's numbers, there's a lot of debate about how he comes up with them among serious football fans/numbers guys. There's a lot of "interpretation" going on when there shouldn't be.

Jones is a good corner with a chance to be special. He isn't great yet and has a year of rust but some people seem to expect Deion Sanders in his prime.

Is he better than Reeves?

I have never questioned Adam Jones' abilities. From a physical standpoint, he is clearly better then any 3rd CB on our roster, at the time of his suspension. For me, it's not about that.

No, I did not want to sign Owen. I will definatly admit that Owens has brought a lot to our offense but I still don't love all the rest of the BS that goes along with it. Having said that, you should not be comparing TO to Adams in any sense of the word. By all accounts, Owens is a good team mate so even that comparison is not a valid one. Owens does things that try your patients but he's not a criminal. This is a major distinction between the two and it is one that clearly seperates these two players.

So signing Pacman is like doing something illegal?

It is a moral concept that is being discussed. Do not twist this. I, personally, view the two in the same context. It is against my morality to take advantage of an opportunity if I know that it is at the expense of my own personal integrity. For me, the reasoning is the same in regards to Jones. He has had opportunities to get it right. He elected not to take advantge of them. I would be hypocritical to accept Adam Jones as a good thing in view of my own beliefs about what is right and what is wrong.

As I said, I don't expect my opinions to be viewed well. It is what it is. I can not and would not change what I believe.

You said he was average at best and was overhyped. I point to actual statistics and you come back with this nonsense of the temporal order of my response?

Joyners CB stats are success percentage which is basically looking at a CBs assignment and determining whether or not he gave up the pass if thrown at. Yards per attempt is determined the same way.

Pacman is a man cover corner. Its not that hard to determine his assignments as its not for most corners unlike say a safety. Its also as if the stats don't match up with things like conventional wisdom. Bailey, Clements and McCalister rate as the other top corners.

If you don't like that go and lookat the game we played against them in 2006. He was manned up against TO almost the entire game. We moved To around a couple of times and got him on Reynaldo Hill whom he promptly posterized on a 40+ yard TD reception. TO didnt do much the rest of the day as Jones covered him as well as one ever has.

He was AllPro in 2006. Note he did not make the probowl for differentiation between the accolades.

But really I have given several reasons why people may think that hes a top corner. What reason do you have for thinking he is not?

I still want Antoine Cason.

I'd want him to, in the 2nd rd

but if we dont get him its no big thing...there are plenty of talented CB's who can come in and do what we need them to do this yr...which is basically sit and learn or maybe play some special teams and mop up duty
