Yesterday driving home and listening to 105.3 the fan they were reporting there is confirmed tension between these two over Romo giving his speech this past season. Apparently Red didn't want Romo to do this and the two haven't spoken since. Shocked I haven't red this anywhere else on here today but if this is true pretty pathetic imo Red would take this stance. Romo was 100% class in what he did taking a back seat and putting the team first. I hope this little tidbit doesn't become fact cause Red's stock just continues to plummet..imo...I get he is the HC but Romo has been the face of this franchise and deserved the right to do what he did.

It's speculation. NO CONFIRMED TENSION...just speculation that it may be so
I heard that too on the radio. Not saying it's for sure not true, that there's some there, but even they all admitted they really didn't know.

But their theory (Broaddus and Ben Rodgers) WAS on the topic you described.
They thought Romo did the clubhouse and organization (and Dak) a huge favor by diffusing the situation with that "concession speech". But for some reason, Broaddus has heard through 3rd level sources (nothing remotely confirmed) that perhaps Garrett didn't like him doing that.

I also think (don't know) Romo doesn't want to be seen parading around with the head coach when Dak is the QB. Would look like he's buttering up to the coach and undermining the starting QB.
Romo normally does try to take the high road and not undermine folks. It's one thing if you're the starter and just hanging with a friend, but entirely different if there's any chance of a competition. It would look bad.

One more theory is that both Garrett and jerry promised Romo he would get a fair shot at earning his job back, but that Garrett changed his mind when things were going well and didn't want a QB competition in mid season. That's understandable, I suppose. they were playing well. But from Romo's perspective--and he still took the high road and kept his mouth shut--Garrett was going back on his word.

I agree that Red is being a moron if this is really true. Of course, I can never believe the Dallas media on the Cowboys unless Todd Archer actually reports it.

I really thought Romo handled that as well as anybody I have ever seen and that the speech was so incredibly well done that I told my dad he should watch it and my dad is not a fan of the NFL.

I generally like Garrett's approach with the media...stay the course and talk football and give them nothing. You may get criticized for being a boring press conference, but you can't trust the Dallas media and ESPN is fraudulent...so it keeps distractions to a minimum.

However, in this case the Romo as a backup or a starter needed to be addressed and Tony's speech nipped it in the bud. That's where I disagreed with Parcells tact with the media when T.O. was signed. Instead of trying to treat T.O. like he did every other high profile FA that he ever brought in at various teams he coached....this was a different situation and required a different tact. If he would have just said to the effect 'I know Owens has been involved in a very volatile situation over the past year, but when he became available he was a player that *I* wanted on this team because I felt he would be a tremendous contributor to our offense and I excited to be coaching him.'

That would have taken the hysteria and cut it right down at the knees. Instead he tried to handle it like he always has and it was nothing but a headache for a year. And when Wade came along the next season and basically said what I stated...the hysteria was no more in 2007.

Unfortunately, Wade had no clue how to handle the Dallas media and by 2008 he allowed new hysterical nonsense on T.O. to start up.

Agree why I said if confirmed to be factual. But as you heard from "their reporting" perspective they claimed this to be confirmed and factual. Also agree with all your other points as possibilities as well. For me if it is confirmed to be true then Red looks bad in this situation.

Why would anybody believe Romo would be allowed to give a press conference on the topic of the QB situation in Dallas against the wishes of the head coach? That's just dumb.

Jason's position with the team no longer requires him having to make sure he has the support of Romo and Witten.

The 'make sure they like me' priorities have shifted.

A lot of you may think the Romo PC was Classy. I thought it was unnecessary. IMO it was nothing more than "woe is me, I'm in a dark place, everyone feel sorry for me because I was the QB of the Cowboys and now I'm not because a rookie 4th rounder is better" Cry me a river Romo. You and your 2 playoff wins. See you on injured reserve in Houston or wherever you end up.

And some would say you're wrong

And just a guess here: you definitely were not a Romo fan..and maybe an outright hater...to say something so short bus worthy at that..

You obviously didn't understand the press conference then. Romo conceded the job to Dak and, in the process, mitigated any potential QB controversy. Romo then left the locker room after games so he wouldn't be a distraction to the team. In essence, he nipped it in the bud. Had he not done that, the speculation surrounding Romo, Dak, the team, etc. would have run rampant during a crucial part of the season when the team is fighting for a playoff birth. I think it says a lot when the primary story this year was Dak and Zeke, and not Romo. It was a classy move and I'm not so sure some QB's would have been so gracious and just given up their job.

You're right about that. I never said anyone was "right or wrong". Just stating my difference of opinion.

You did call everybody else "sheep." Unless you're suggesting the sheep are the ones who got it right, you did imply you were the one who was right.

I wasn't as impressed with Romo's presser as some seemed to be, but I thought the gesture was really important and it was classy of him to put the team ahead of his own situation so publicly. He handled a tough spot better than most players in his situation could.

The same goes for Dak, btw. Both players were great.

The controversy and speculation being mitigated as you say was just noise by fans and media. By then it was Dak's team and the players all knew it. There was no controversy with them. They all knew the Romo era was over. That PC had nothing to do with the players inside the locker room. It was all about fans, media, and Romo. In other words NOISE. Unnecessary noise.

I agree but there appears to be some merit and like it was pointed out yesterday...those two who were BFFs are no longer talking since the speech.

You don't know about the locker room and it's not a stretch to think a QB controversy could ensue and split the team. It wouldn't be the first time. We heard very little noise from inside the locker room, even rumors and/or speculation, and I think that's because Romo put those questions to rest.

Better?? please...

It's more likely they were just managing perceptions. The last thing we needed last year was rumors about Tony and Garrett's friendship and what it meant for Dak. It'd be like TO's Tony/Witten BFFs thing from 2008 on steroids.

I get that perception last year during the season...Red just said in his recent NC they have not spoken "in a while"...I hear ya I hope you're right.

I generally stick up for Jerry, but I do believe that if Jerry believed that is what needed to be done that he would go against Garrett's wishes on this one.

I know what you mean, for sure. But I can't see Jerry doing that in this case.

If anything, the decision would have been a consensus where maybe Jason was in the dissent, but they'd make that decision as an organization, so it's not going to end up being a significant bone of contention.
