Terence Newman

imho TNew is 100% done ... on this contract.

he will definitely play more football but probably not here and definitely not under the terms of the massive deal.

I'm convinced he has some sort of injury that's impacting his efforts.

That's always it when a fan likes a player who is playing poorly.

And you're right. He's been beat up for a long stretch of games now. Keeping only 3 CBs was a dunderhead move on Jerry.

this is not a great logical post.

we have the 4th cb on the roster that we would have kept out of camp... mccann.

almost every nfl player is banged up this deep into a season and tnew is always banged up. has been for a few seasons. you don't play at his size and retain great health week in and week out.

Was Newman even listed as questionable on the injury report? Of course he's banged up a little - everyone is. I never have understood how fans of a particular player can make excuses for that player based on being bumped and bruised late in the year while ignoring that every player is bumped and bruised late in the year.

A lot of the problems the CBs are having is because they are trying to do the safety's jobs as well. When you try and do two things at once, you will not do either well.

Unlike some teams, Dallas does not list every possible injury. Not like Tom Brady having been listed for a bad shoulder for two years.

How is Jenkins trying to do the safety's job when he is getting beat trying to jump routes?

As for Newman, I don't see that he is really any different than last year or the year before. HE is always close to his man and makes tackles after the catch, but he rarely breaks up a pass or picks one off.

That rib injury still bothers him- do not know if he is still taking shots but his flexibility is not what it was.

He's lost a step, there's no way around it. That happens when you're 32 years old playing against guys who are ten years younger than you are regardless of how fast you once were.

It's time to look for a replacement. Part of me feels that we may already have it with McCann/Scandrick, but I could see Newman falling back to a third/fourth corner role next year.

The only people that should want this guy back are Eagle and Giant fans.
3rd and 4 or more = a 75% chance they are going at Newman. He will line up 7yds off the receiver and his first step is always to back away. We may have no one better but thats not saying much. Only my opinion.

I think Newman has played very tentative this year. He has the tools physically but I don't see the urgency or hunger in his game.

I don't think he needs to go though. Unless he becomes a malcontent.
He seems to be one of the leaders on this defense. But that's not saying much considering it's the worst defense in the league.

Maybe a change of scheme and coaching will light his fire and make him what he used to be.

I think he is a little slower right now. I think he still has plenty of hunger. I think he could go to some other team and be a pro bowl type player.

Are you serious? If there's one of the better things he does, it's tackling.

I agree. Anybody that says he "disdains" tackling is an idiot. There's no DB on this team who does a better job of squaring up and trying to make a form tackle than TNew and that includes the safeties. Of course he'll miss one every now and then but it's not for lack of effort. He plays through his injuries and always takes the blame for his mistakes. It will be a real loss when he leaves the secondary imo.

Why is the word "fact" so hard for some of you to differentiate from "opinion"? It's really not that hard. Newman isn't done. Just my OPINION. See? It's easy.

Because he is done. Stick a fork on that piece of meat and start cutting. He's lost the biggest asset he had coming out of college: speed, and he was never a physical player to begin with. He's at the stage that Anthony Henry was during his last year in Dallas right before he was traded to Detroit.

Maybe the Bizarro world Terrence Newman, but not this one. He was, at best, a solid tackler and that's being generous. At this stage of his career, he's one of the worst tacklers on the team.

You didn't do well in school, did you.... (that's rhetorical, btw).

I don't know what games you are watching. He is pretty solid in tackling. He is third on the team in tackles and second on the team in solo tackles. Say what you want about his play otherwise (I personally think he has had a subpar year by his standards) but his tackling is fairly sure. Among others, the ones that stick out in my mind are the quick passes to the flanks where he normally bolts in and makes the tackle.

The only two above him are James and Brooking. 36 of James' combined tackles are assists; 23 for Brooking. Only 2 of Newman's combined tackles are assists. I think that is a testament to his sure tackling.

Where are the usual Newman apologists? It just ain't the same without them.

burm is here with his usual newman injury crappola excuse. No one in their right mind is buying that garbage.

Adam, Adam, where are you? All these people need to be corrected. You need to "explain" it to everyone that Newman played "excellent" again.

And the dude with the Newman avatar who quotes the same old article over and over quoting scouts touting Jenkins and Newman?

I think some have finally started coming to grips that Newman has slowed down alot and is becoming a liability.

I'm just glad he didn't drop it like the one that hit him square in the hands against KC last year that resulted in the Cowboys having to win that game in OT.
