Terence Newman

I don't mind getting rid of Newman but we have nobody to replace him, Jenkins and scandrick have been equally as bad

Well Roy, 41 has put up something more than his OPINION, which is more than you have done by a mile. So go pound sand.

here's the main problem.

He's the type of player that will make a play here or there to tantalize you...then get beat when you least need it.

It's time to move on from Toast.

That's the number one excuse the Newman apologists keep using. Desean Jackson also had a bad wheel a couple of weeks ago. He was limping around and a few plays later took a short pass 91 yards for a TD.

Dez played on 2 bad wheels this season and had a rib injury but still ran past defenders making plays at receiver and as a returner.

Just about every player out there has something hurting the Cowboys wouldn't be playing Newman if he was as injured as some of you are trying to make it sound. Those are nothing more than excuses!

You just said Newman is getting beat far too often and that he's slower than in the past now you're saying he's a substandard player but here you are defending him and criticizing those who are critical of his play.

You're saying exactly what most fans here are saying about him so what's your beef?

Alot of teams are forced to play substandard players because that's the best they have at a particular position and most of those teams are struggling just like the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are playing several substandard players and these players need to be replaced with better players during the offseason or this team will continue struggling.

The Cowboys have gotten some pressure this season but their coverage is so pathetic receivers are able to get open quickly.

We have players who make numerous mistakes in coverage and leave receivers wide open.

We just allowed Rex Grossman of all QB's to throw for over 300 yards for only the second time in his career and he produced 4 TD passes. Several of us here could probably complete a pass against our defense.

The Cowboys are on the brink of setting a franchise futility record for total points allowed in a season and most of those points have come through the air.

I don't see anyone putting all the blame on Newman but he's clearly part of the problem.

Most everyone who's given their opinion on Newman sees it clearly even you're agreeing with most of what everyone is saying. You said he's slowing down that's a big part of his problem. If he makes even the slightest mistake receivers run right by him.

The Eagles entered the game 2 weeks ago looking to attack him because he's been beaten alot this season. Teams are targeting him now and this wasn't the case a few years ago.

Take some reading comprehension classes.

There have been Terence Newman threads almost every week for the past month here at CZ. Over that course of time i've put up much more than opinion.

Bottom line though.. Newman was a very good CB for us for more than a couple years. However anyone that would say he is a top 5 CB in the NFL right now is an absolute fool imo. You don't need evidence to back this up, you just need a pair of eyes and the ability to watch the games. I can't provide enough evidence of the amount of times he's been beaten, burnt deep and completions that he's allowed in front of him. Its just laughable that some here continue to defend him as one of the best in the game after seeing his body of work this year. He's never been a guy to make many plays on the ball, even with his 3 INT's a year, he never has many pass breakups. Now this year he's not even shadowing guys and forcing opposing QB's to throw to the other side of the field, they are going right at him like he's a rookie 7th round pick.. or like a guy who's aging and doesn't have it like he used to, because that's the reality of the situation.

I love T New, he gave us some good years, but its time to get some young talent in here, and let Newman help the young guys get better. I don't think we should get rid of him, but he's clearly not the player he once was.

DeSean Jackson hurt his foot after the first play of the game.

KJJ and some others,

You all state that "Newman has slowed down", but you fail to acknowledge that Jackson was accelerating while Newman was caught in transition on that play. Just watch the play, or read Broaddus' analysis on that play. That was the difference on the play. Jackson had 210 yards, and 60 were on the first play. Andy Reid bragged about wanting to target Newman, but he went after him deep one time, and they never were able to get him deep again, the entire game. Plus, the Eagles had the perfect call on for that defense, and Vick had all day long to camp and throw. When Newman took Jackson man to man all over the field, Jackson was shut down three straight times.

Robert Meachem is one of the most explosive receivers in the NFL. He gained 1 yard of separation at the Dallas 45. The safety failed to protect his CB over the top, after the CB was past the 15 yard area of that specific coverage. NFL Playbook documented this fact and focused their entire analysis on critiquing Alan Ball. Plus, that play and possession should have never happened to begin with. Roy E. Williams let a fading, tired Saints defense of the "hook'em" when he didn't protect the game that was literally in his hands. He failed to execute the breast play and show a killer instinct. He's in Leon Lett territory, except Lett was a very good DT for some time.

Furthermore, you fail to acknowledge that the Saints run their WRs in and out to keep them fresh. (Meachem, Henderson, and # 16) Dallas' defense had to go back onto the field, on a short week, at the end of the game, when it looked like the game was going to be over. The Saints' defense was done, but the poor football security gave Drew Brees a free at bat.

In fact, it sure looks like Dallas should have drafted Meachem, instead, they gave Roy E. Williams a ridiculous contract and sold the farm to get him, too.

Newman stated that he guessed wrong on the big play yesterday. Johnston (Moose) stated that "Newman came out of his break late" on that play. If you think the ball is going elsewhere, that might cause you to appear to come out of your break late. Newman thought the ball was going in another direction. That has nothing to do with his speed. Newman caught up to that play by the way. His angle took him further than the ball traveled, but the ball was short.

Newman stated that they ran the same play at the end of the game, and he guessed right when they ran it again. The result was another huge interception against the hated Commanders.

It's obvious you have an incredible Newman bias which makes it a waste of time arguing this topic with you but I'll do it anyway. To say Newman is a top 5 CB at this stage in his career is laughable.

Newman was never a great player to begin with but he was solid. Now he's no longer solid he's become a liability. If you want to buy into every stat that AdamJT throws out that proves absolutely nothing go ahead.

He's posted stats comparing Newman with Darrell Green, Ronnie Lott and Champ Bailey I'm sure you bought into all of it. LOL

Newman is part of the worst secondary in the history of the Cowboys franchise. Anyone who's watched the games this season and is objective can easily see he's part of the problem but no one is saying he's the main problem.

The biggest problem is we have 2 safeties that need to be replaced. Neither are getting the job done and it's magnifying the issues we have at cornerback. No one we have back there can cover consistently.

You won't find a defense that makes more glaring mistakes in coverage than the Cowboys. Several times this season after being burned we have players back there looking bewildered practically pointing the finger at each other.

Newman and one of our other defenders almost came to blows on the field during a game because of a mixup in coverage. Our secondary is an embarrassment!

If they make a play they turn around and give up a big play. Any defense that can make Rex Grossman look like a viable NFL QB isn't worth a crap.

Ah. Almost accurate. If I apologized for the play of our best CB, and if I were playing monkey-see, monkey-do, you'd have nailed it. Another example of the reading comprehension point.

You don't read carefully, so you take weak stances that you can't defend. That pretty much begs people to correct you, and then you mislabel them based off of your tenuous understandings of their arguments. Good work.

Yakuza Rich gave me a good laugh with this quote in his meaningless thoughts thread:
"I’m still a Newman fan. Even when he gets beat, it’s usually on a great play design or a great move by the WR or just a WR who is really good and really fast."

I don't know what the Newman apologists are smoking. Are these Newman lovers part of some brainwashed cult? How can someone be so far removed from reality to write something like that? It is incomprehensible.

Newman is not injured. Sore ribs? Tweaked ankle? That's nothing but a built-in excuse. Seriously, did Newman look injured when he speared the player and got a 15 yd penalty wiping out a potential 3rd and 15 and making it a 1st and goal? Did Newman look like he had an ankle problem when he was running around like a fool after he got the INT. Catch the ball and just go down. Don't risk a fumble.

You have apologized for the play of Newman using excuses and packing around with other Newman apologists following their lead.

You've made your way into several of these Newman threads that keep popping every week because he keeps getting beat.

You then claim that everyone who's knocking his play doesn't know what they're looking at when it comes to our CB's play. LOL

It's pretty easy to see when a CB gets beat the announcers doing the game don't have any trouble seeing it because they point it out. LOL

You claim that Newman has played well this season but admit that he's been repeatedly beaten. LOL

Here's a comment from Jobberone who you're playing follow the leader with "The problem here is not having someone to take his place. He shouldn't be trying to play CB. It's quite obvious he can't keep up. The reason they put a substandard player on the field is because he's still the best person for the job. That's a sad fact. We didn't keep enough decent CBs on the team this year. The position was badly played.

Here he is throwing Newman under the bus but claims I'm a troll who's not in my right mind for criticizing him. :laugh2:

He's actually being more critical than I've been because I don't think Newman shouldn't be playing the position at all.

Some of you say one thing about Newman attempting to defend him you then turn around and agree he's been getting beat far too often. I don't see how a CB who's been getting beat far too often can be playing well.

Newman wasn't targeted by the Eagles because he's been playing well this season. It only takes a little common sense to figure out why a team enters a game targeting a particular player.

Our secondary is getting beat far too often that's why our defense is giving up a franchise record number of points.

Again, the New York Giants' defense and secondary was in shambles last season. Did they cut Corey Webster ($ 8 million base salary in 2011)? No. They addressed their issues on defense by adding multiple safeties through the draft and free agency. They added to their pass rush on their defensive line. They hired a new defensive coordinator. Rafael Vela did a study and compared the 09 Giants defense to the 10 Dallas defense and the numbers are striking.

New York didn't panic; they knew who their good players were, and they built around them. There are some people here who don't understand the nature of the CB position, and they always seem to show up in threads like this. Ignorance about the position, combined with hidden agendas, seem to drive some people. Some people just may be ignorant about what defines success at the position. Some people may be ignorant about the position and have the hidden agendas. I see both here, and this is nothing new. This has been going on for years.

Go ahead and flail away with your unsupported, erroneous, self-proclaimed "facts".

By the way, a little pass rush on the Meachem and Jackson plays would have been nice. Where was it?

While the Eagles are playing games in our secondary in that coverage, Vick is camping out and setting up to build a tent.

Newman is in major decline. I really wonder if he'll be with the Cowboys next season.

I used to own a monkey...I really did. A small spider monkey.

(not to hijack a thread)

When I was younger in New Mexico...my neighbor friend had one(her name was Ester). I wanted one too...we were around 8 or 9 years old. So mom and dad bought me one to.

Owning a pet like that is crazy, especially after he got out of the cage...and he was out of the cage in the house. Kinda like a cat...

One day I let him out of his cage, and then he got out of the house thru an open window!

He ran outside and went up a telephone pole...being a monkey. That was his last time out. His tail bit him...

True story...

Fletch, Igor Olshansky, who you defended when he was dancing in the Giants game, while his team was getting embarrassed, may find his way to Dancing With the Stars.

Got to love that "fight".

How about not getting your rear end pushed around all night long?

Also, Brad Pitt should upgrade to Megan Fox. I bet she would cook Thanksgiving for him..

Edit:

Isn't that Brad Pitt in your avatar? Forget the hypothetical. I think you should ditch him and put Megan Fox in your avatar.

I've certainly made Terence Newman some enemies over the years (LOL) through my stance against iOwens, my critical analysis of Roy E. Williams, and Marion Barber. Barber and iOwens had a cult like followings.

How many Roy E. Williams fans are here? I know who many of you are. It's not hard to see the University of Texas fans.

For all I know iJordan Taber himself may be lurking around here.

Question...

What does Ohio State resemble when they face the SEC?

Got to love that win Peyton Manning hung on your "All Star" team...

Now, that is "Toast".

P.S.

Are you a Bobby Carpenter fan?

You okay, 41gy#? You seem to have lost it. Your posts are ridiculous and getting worse.

You better hope your other boy Webster does well this Sunday vs Rogers and GB. If not, and the Giants lose, GB probably makes the playoffs and Webster and the Giants are out.

Maybe Newman will be a NYG next year and both your boys will be together. That would be nice:D
