Guess I missed this.......so he took a pay cut but his salary is now guaranteed through 2027.

Cowboys cut pay of $51M lineman, will he respond with his best season?

. Instead, they reworked his contract this spring to bring down his money and cap hit.

That likely was a front office decision they didn't want to spend the draft or financial capital to improve on the position this year, knowing that the offense can compete at a high level with him as a starter; they've done it time and time again.

The team saved almost $10 million of cap space with the new deal, which is essentially a guaranteed two-season pact with a team option and friendly terms if they want to keep him on board in 2028.

Not every offensive linemen can be an all-pro and it's clear the Cowboys feel he's good enough and didn't have the resources to go out too find an upgrade. Steele is a pretty good run blocker and subpar in pass protection, but with Booker's continued development that likely helps Steele as well.

Personally, I'm more concerned with the LT spot as its dependent on Guyton's development. Sounds like he's putting in some good work in the offseason, so if he stays healthy hopefully he can make a jump.

Just listen to the radio pundits. Steele is a "middle-of-the-road" RT and Cowboys fans are just spoiled with good O-lines over the last 10+ years. Never mind that he is a turnstile half the time who constantly needs TE and RB help.

I completely get the frustration. A tackle is on an island, when they give up pressure or a sack it's for all to see. Having said that, middle of the road or a little above is about right for him in pass pro. If you don't think there are worse RT's in the league, you aren't watching other teams.
Do we need to be looking ahead for his replacement at RT? Sure. Can I understand why they chose to roll with what they had & put resources elsewhere? Absolutely.
I don't put a lot of stock in PFF data but they credit him with six sacks while Tyler Smith (playing G) gave up three just to give some perspective.

No, I really don't watch other teams. I watch other games but I don't analyze the players like I do with the Cowboys. And yeah, I pretty much agree about the approach they're taking — I just don't like him as a player all that much. He gave up six sacks, but how many would he have given up without RB and TE help? (Rhetorical question, of course). Anyway, I'm hoping Thomas or Shelton can eventually be an upgrade and if you asked me what else they could've done I couldn't tell you... A free agent, I guess but I don't know who — or if they'd actually be better.

I didn't read it at all I promise I didn't, but it's not NEARLY as long as you actually wanted it to be, you're getting better everyday because of FLIPS like me and others who have told you to back off!!!!!!!!!!:laugh:o_O
