Myself I'm pretty happy with Williams and at 25 I think he will continue to grow and develop as a WR. He has 2 years remaining on his rookie contract beyond that we will see how he progresses

Agreed. Nothing to see here. Let our guy continue to develop. He's doing just fine. WR is not a concern.

What is it about you people that continually hate on the players that finally have gotten to the play-offs and won a game?

Why must you people be so extreme? Me bringing up a discussion about our number two wr isn't exactly a witch hunt against Williams.

Some of us, myself included, enjoyed our one playoff win so much we are into exploring different avenues to win a 2nd and third and 4th playoff game.

Once again, I don't necessarily think Williams needs to be replaced. I wouldn't be mad if we didn't somehow 'improve' our WR2 in the draft or FA.

However, I could see the Cowboys looking to improve in that area if a BPA wr falls to them. I think fans that are dismissing the idea that we can improve at WR #2 are somewhat getting content with mediocrity, which is not what I want out of my team.

I think after two years the kid has shown he can play the position., Further, why waste another draft pick since Street is the next man up trying to take that spot.

Extreme, hardly.

This team needs to sign their own players on offense and maintain the continuity of that side of the ball. See if they can fit a DE under the cap. There is one everyone is talking about. Plus there is a safety lurking that might improve the back end. Then concentrate on the rest of the defense and another offensive lineman.

The window is now. Developing people we have on the squad and trust is better than just swinging at a mid to late round guy for a spot we seem to have depth.

I know this was only his 2nd year, I know that he is the third option on what is now a run heavy team, I know he had 8 tds last year.

However, I don't know what is future will hold. This is what I would like to discuss.

Reading percyhowards thread http://cowboyszone.com/threads/romos-best-and-worst-targets-in-2014.315016/#post-5973421 jogged my memory on just how inept Williams can look

Romos passer rating on 3rd or 4th down to Williams was 58.9 on 17 targets. In 2013 Romos rating to Williams on the same set of downs was 35.6 . That is far and away the worst rating on the team.

Williams conversion % on said targets were 38.9% and 34.% in 2013 . Murray was the only one with a worse %.

This leads me to believe that we just cant trust Williams on 3rd or 4th down (except against seahags). I know it is taboo to talk about this on cowboyszone, but Williams tendency to body catch isn't going to help the teams faith in him when wanting to fire in a slant etc on a critical pass.

(once again, credit to percyhoward for numbers)

Delving deeper into the stats showed that in 18 games Williams never once eclipsed the century mark. His closest effort netted him 92 yards. In 7 out of 18 games Williams had 20 yards or less (he wasn't even targeted in the Bears game)! In 12 of 18 games he had 52 yards or less! Williams was targeted 66 times and had 37 receptions, now I haven't gone back and watched every play to assess where the fault lies, but the numbers dictate a 56% completion percentage to Williams. Considering Romo finished with a 69.9 completion percentage this season, Williams simply isn't doing enough.

I know with how good our offense is, it is a luxury to be talking about possibly improving our 2nd receiver. But I think we would be doing a disservice to Romo and the rest of our offense if we don't at least consider it. I know there have been whispers about Street, but he showed nothing this season and knock on wood, if Dez went down we would be absolutely screwed.

All the Cowboys have to do is trade TWill and an 7th for Odell Beckum Jr. or a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue for Calvin Johnson. Either would make a swell #2 WR.

Terrance Williams first 2 years:
81, 1357, 13

Alvin Harper first 2 years:
55, 888, 5

Alvin Harper first 3 years:
91, 1665, 10

I don't want to hear about chuck and duck offenses and teams whose 2nd and 3rd WR catch 80-90 balls per year.

"It's a different era." "The game has changed"

Maybe it did there, but it hasn't here.

It might be just a matter of time before a youngster comes along to seriously challenge Williams, unless he continues to improve somewhat upon his performances thus far in his career. His periods of non-productivity aren't very likely to be tolerated indefinitely. In the meantime, we'll see what 2015 offers with his development.

I am fine with him...he seems to be progressing, so let's see if he progresses again this year...I like that he is on a rookie contract and is NOT a #1, so his next contract as of right now will not be cost-prohibitive

Williams is fine. I'dd like some more depth at the position, but between Dez, Williams, witten, Beasley, our WR corps is a strength.

i think williams has been a very good player for us. as for his future thats simple. you are not going to have an elite wr and a second wr on second contracts. enjoy the growth of williams who has come in and played two very good years for a guy in his first two years because the next guy probably won't be as good and twill won't get a second contract

Will be interesting to see how Street develops/is used. Recall a statement that the coaching staff was very pleased with him, and he could be pushing Williams next year. Good problem to have if true.

right now, we are part of a good, yet fragile system. everybody plays a role, but if you remove one crucial part, the whole thing will tumble. Without our full O-Line, our run game suffers. Without Terrance, Dez is free to get double-covered. Without Dez, we have to rely on short plays by the air to witten and Williams. The best teams in the NFL have good players that can replace at all positions, not just superstars and then fluff behind them. We're not there yet. The only position where I think we have some play is at RB.

He quietly posted more snaps than Dunbar and just slightly fewer than Harris there his rookie season. 138 offensive plays. That's more than I would have expected.

He needs to go. He and MO are in the same boat.

He nees to go or get bumped down the rankings. We can't have our number 2 option behave the way he is. He's more like a 4th option. The guy you bring in every now and then and hope he can get open deep.

TWill needs to really work on catching the football but he has some undeniable physical tools
And his catches have often been big plays.
He gets open and makes big plays.

Like a lot of young guys he needs technique and consistency.
I think he has a great role model for that in Dez.
Dez really works at the craft and loves it.
TWill has to follow that lead and they can push each other.

This is an easy question to address. Williams is a solid #2; he never be a #1. As long as Dez is a Cowboy, Williams will always be the sidekick. He will move on when his contract is up.

I'm satisfied with TWill he's scored 13 TD's in his first 2 seasons 8 of them in 2014. I guess you could say he's the current Cowboys version of Alvin Harper he doesn't catch a lot of balls but when he does they usually lead to big plays he's averaged 16.8 yards per catch the past 2 seasons.

Surprised at some of the negativity. Really love how he has developed. Basically broke us out in critical playoff games with Detroit and GB. Can get the ball and go. Like the kid.
