Did you ever get to see our best #2 receiver, Alvin Harper play? Do you know his best season he had with the Cowboys was 821 yards, granted huge YPCs but thats it. #2 receivers generally dont break 1000 yards unless its a extremely heavy pass oriented offense. I think Terrance Williams had an outstanding rookie season. This aint Madden.

You're showing your age, Harper isn't even close to being our best #2 receiver.

He seems to be as effective as Harper was, but I think he's actually a better pass catcher than Harper was.

Why extend a guy in his second year? No good reason when he has 2 1/2 years left on his original contract.

Because as his stats continue to improve, he will continue to demand more money. Sign him to deal deal now, not after he gets 1000 yards and 8 TD's. Not saying I would extend him now, but that's the logic

Ok.

Sounds roughly like the same logic that was expressed and ultimately acted upon after Miles Austin put up his monster season in 2009.

As with all things salary cap related, the team must judiciously consider factors many factors when considering extending a player:
  • Age
  • Past performance
  • Remaining time on the current deal
  • How replaceable is that player?
  • etc

TWill was really the #3 guy last season who got more playing time than anticipated due to Miles Austin's injuries. Williams had a very good rookie season. He is developing nicely. I agree that he is similar to Alvin Harper and will end up as the better overall receiver over the length of his career.

TW is a good #2. His success really isn't about being a great player. It is about being a decent WR who is going to get many very favorable matchups because of the attention paid to Dez. Enjoy him while you can. He'll leave via FA for #1 money.

I think he will be sort of that 1A reciever like TJ Houshmanzadeh was to Ochocinco

I'll show mine. I'll go with Tony Hill as the best number two.

I would say Pearson and Hill were more like 1A and 1B. Other than his rookie season Tony usually posted better numbers(receptions, yards and TDs) each season than Drew.

You're assuming his stats will only improve. They probably will, but unless they get a Church-like deal, it's too soon, because there are still too many unknowns.

Besides, can they extend him early in his contract, or does he have to play out this season first?

I remember Broadus talking about how TWill is more of a body catcher, but he's been making some nice catches with just his hands so I'm sure he's working on it. Seems like a smart guy and a perfect compliment to a #1 WR like Dez

They can extend him whenever they want. I never said he would have better stats and I never said they should extend him, I just said that's the theory behind extending a player early in their contract

+ the fact we really need to get Beasley and Harris more involved. Harris can be our Percy Harvin, not speed wise but this guy is an animal with the ball in his hands...he's like a rb. Beasley I would like to see targeted over the middle down the seam some, more than just his current 7-8 yd patterns, get Beasley in the open and he can do some damage that we have not seen yet.

No reason to extend him. Let him play his rookie contract out. Dez will get a huge contract and cannot spend all the money on offense.

The plan is to see the potential early, and extend him before he puts up a monster season, aka Austin.

Otherwise, it will be a large contract. Wrap him up now, and his cap hit is minimal for the next several years. Thus, money available for Dez.

That's my logic.

Our offense has been pick your poison to lose by... Get destroyed on the ground with Murray.... Dez over the top.... or Twill slanting across the field getting huge gains

and lets not forget ol' faithful in Witten.

What I like about what I saw in TWill last night is he developed swag. He's dangerous now. He was throwing serious shade every time he got in the end zone. He's not the best interview... seems a little shy...but you can't stop him now. ....you can only hope to contain him.

Isn't this what jerry has been roasted for doing on here for years. He's under contract , let it play out
