Texans offensive line coach Bruce Matthews didn't wait until he joined the Texans to convert to being a Cowboys enemy. He was a big Cowboys fan growing up in California and attending Southern California.

Still, he converted long ago when he was a first-round draft pick of the Oilers and continued his Hall of Fame career with the Tennessee Titans.

"Granted, they've earned it," Matthews said. "They've won a lot of Super Bowls but man, even preseason, we'd (Oilers) be training in San Antonio and they'd come in for a scrimmage and everybody would be cheering for them. Then again, they won the big ones and we never did. So…"

YOu noticed that they didn't interview any Houston area Cowboy players, only Dallas area Toxin players?

Apparently Houston area players have always been Cowboy fans! Its a one sided rivalry. The Toxins consider it a rivalry, the Cowboys don't.

I think even from the fans stand point. This game means more here in Houston and their fans than it does for the Cowboys.

As far as I'm concerned win or lose this is a pre season game, I would like to see our guys looking sharper than they have especially the starting offense but when the game is over the win or loss will not mean much. However if Houston wins they will talk as if they just won the SB on local sports talk.

There is no rivalry. Perhaps if we met in the SB and lost then that would create some rivalry.

I remember losing that first game to them. Mercy, that was painful!

They seem to think that they're our rivals, too. Not sure where they got that idea from. Maybe from their Williams vs. Bush whining.

It is a preseason game and who wins or loses that the game does not matter. The only the rivalry is Texan fans envy of the Cowboys.
:lmao:

In fact the only thing Texan fan has held onto is their opening win against Dallas 6 years ago (Dave Campo should have been fired on that plane ride home)

Texans ............................................................................. Cowboys

This reminds me.

Nearly everytime I read the houston chronicle John McClain has something negative to say about the DFW area and the cowboys.

SO I just went there and sure enough at the end of his most recent blog post he has the statement that it is a good thing the texans dont have to be play the champions again and they can get ready for arlingtons team.

Moron.

Every time that guy has come to texas stadium he has whined about what a dump the building was and how he hates Dallas and how the fans here are all stupid.

The guy is annoying.

and then I find this fan blog on the chronicle proclaiming cowboys fans to be troublemakers and how rude they are and how texans fans are so polite.

whatever..

However, I must confess, I do not like going to Texans-Cowboy games, even though in every home game, the Texans have won. Why?
In general, Texan fans are very welcoming to opposing fans. However, Texan fans, like many fanbases, do not like rude visitors. I think Houston is the friendliest big city in America, but I also think that one of the pet peeves residents have is dealing with folks with poor manners. You know, like switching lanes in front of someone without giving the normal wave. Or rude customer service.
We are just so accustomed to friendly, that rude just seems more rude.
Cowboy fans, in general, do not feel like they have to be polite visitors because 1. many show up to road games which makes them act more brave in numbers; 2. there are enough vocal Cowboy fans to reflect poorly on the entirety of their fanbase even if individual fans aren't such boorish, awful people.

Funny thing is I know John and talk with him from time to time and he grew up a Cowboys fans and fully expects the Cowboys will go all the way this year. On his radio program this morning he was at the HOF meeting regarding some older players who may come up for nominations and talked of course of Houston LB Robert Brazil but also in his words "The Great Chuck Howley" 2 guys he strongly supports

I saw the 2 names from the Seniors committee and my 1st response was, why not Chuck Howley?

Yea I am sure he is a good guy, seems like a nice person.

SInce I only read that paper when we play them I probably am unfairly judging him.

But I dont care. He always has some stupid stuff to say. All his whining in recent years about Texas Stadium came off as childish.

And For the record I fully expect them to win saturday night and gloat about it. THey got it killed the other night in new orleans and now they have to make a good showing for the home fans, and imo home teams should always win preseason games.

So I expect them to be gloating and talking trash come sunday morning and I expect some snide comments and sarcastic shots at romo and jerry from justice and mcclain come sunday morning.

Just like in 07 when they were all going crazy down there about how they need to prove how good they are and how all those number 1 picks were wasted up front.....the team came out and played like it was the superbowl in beating us.

Which of course clearly resembled the season they had!!!l ol
