Texas A&M DE Shemar Stewart is a freak athlete

I think the Cowboys are in a on Stewart, Williams, Walker, and Pierce at 12. You just cannot have enough potential Elite pass rushers. The defensive tackle class is deep especially with big fat run stoppers. You can get those guys with our extra 5th round picks.
Agreed. I think it's likely, tbh. That's where the talent is and this team values DE and will invest in the position.

My early money is on Stewart at 12. I dont know if he will rise quite into the top 10 with his production. No one expected to go top 10 has really fallen yet, and Pearce likely vaulted into the top 10

Im Eberflus defense, Stewart can play both outside and inside. He gives alot of package possibilities with the different personel you can put on the field with him. He can be a B gap rusher inside. Outside he can play anywhere from a 5 to 9 with his athleticism
I think he's got to be a favorite with the team, for sure. And even with the combine, likely to be available.

I hate the lack of production but it's not like he sucked out there.

I want whoever produces the most on the field in pads. That is up to scouts if Stewart’s lack of production is due to scheme. It does look like he needs to get more technique/moves instead of just relying on athleticism.

All this is great but I want a football player. There are tons of freak athletes out there but do they have the intangibles to match their physical ability? Hell, Mazi Smith was a freak athlete......

Danielle Hunter only had 4 sacks in College and went in the 3rd rd even though he had great Combine.there is no justification for taking a DE at 12 with only 4 sacks in 3 years.

I really do not like his lack of production in college. It tells me either he lacks football instincts, intelligence or motivation, or he needs a lot of coaching. He is a risk at 12. He sounds like a typical second round Dallas pick.

Shemar Stewart is either gonna turn out like Travon Walker, who also had paltry college numbers (though better than Stewart), but turned out to be productive as a pro, or he’s gonna be a Solomon Thomas type that’s gonna get you 3-5 sacks and never have a solidified longterm job in the NFL.

The tape says Stewart is lacking moves but is a good run stopper. The production on the field is what matters , and we can find guys like him in all 7 rounds. Will Campbell is impressive btw. I wouldn't be mad if we drafted him somehow.

sure we can. Remember the lumps of nothing we got with late rd DT picks?

6 sacks in 3 years. On thing that probably made a big difference in is testing is he's is down 25 lbs from his weight at ATM.

Given how athletic he and Scourton are and their lack of production, I question ATM's defensive staff. No way guys that big and athletic should produce so little.
This is what teams have to figure out, why so little production? Usually big numbers on the college level translate, but these trait selections are very boom or bust.

players like this are when the scouts either earn their pay or don't

I think his teammate Nic Scrouton was so overhyped early in the process that he’s now underrated. Scrouton actually has the production.

Scrouton is a very solid late R2/early R3 prospect to me.

Stewart is carved from granite, possessing a rare blend of traits, explosiveness and untapped upside. He’s long and sudden off the snap but hasn’t learned to weaponize his hands to control the point of attack and bypass protection with go-to moves. His bull-rush compresses the pocket off the edge, and he’s too athletic for guards when reduced inside. He can be very disruptive in both phases but requires additional training to start converting his opportunities into finishes. The lack of production relative to the traits is a concern; still, players who move like him are highly coveted. While the boom-or-bust label might be in play, it feels like a matter of time before it all starts to click at a high level. - Lance Zierlein

I may miss on a big time player but I would never draft these types in the top half of the first round. Let someone else gamble that high of a pick on the production eventually coming.

The Ravens took a gamble on Odafe Oweh in the first round after going without a sack his last year of college and that has panned out. He had double digit sacks this year. But that investment was the 31st pick not the 12th.

Most times these types will burn you. They are coach killers.
