Rudy's in Boerne/San Antonio missing...

Rudy's has chains all over the place. Good stuff, but I don't know if it is the best in the state.

Rudy's does have good sauce. As far as I know many of them from Austin to Waco to Dallas to Houston are owned by the same company, but not the original or the one off of 183 in Austin. The company I used to work for set up their cameras and phone systems.

Some other good ones in the Dallas area:

MeShack's
Smokey's
Cousin's BBQ
CT's Real Deal BBQ

I think Ft Worth and burbs has some really good ones:

Randy's
Off-the-Bone
Angelo's

Truth be told, we don't want to leave Cali. We can snow ski and surf in the same day and never more than an hour drive to some beautiful, natural place like Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Big Bear, beach, etc, etc.

The weather is perfect. In SF, we didn't even have an ac but here in LA, we have one but yet to really turn it on. I expect this summer we will have too but it will still get chilly at night, even in mid-summer.

Weekends, we explore from Malibu, various rec. beaches, Orange County/Anaheim to everything we want to see. I live 1.5 miles from the LaBrea Tar Pits, always wanted to go see it as a kid.

As for mosquitos, they are rare and are not a Texas mosquito, more like a gnat to us :)

how much of a difference is the cost of living expenses as compared to living in texas?

does the higher pay compensate to where it equals out?

Once upon a time it was just one location and as usual, the original is the best one to go to. But I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best in TX but Top 50 is not far fetched...

Cost of living is a huge increase from Texas. The home we sold back in Houston was around 260k, here in SF/LA, it would be worth almost million. So, we live in a condo, no need to buy an expensive(small) home if there is a chance we go back.

Compensation isn't always equal though, depends what the job is. I don't see how teachers, police, etc do it without their spouse working too.

When I was younger, I waited tables to finish school, I got by but barely. The servers out here make basically the same and I would have starved :(

Next time you're in San Jose try Jon Jon's BBQ. It's pretty awesome, and the best BBQ in the Bay Area. Just make sure you don't park your car out of eye sight.

Ok, thanks. I would kill for some good BBQ out here. As it stands now, we drive about 1.5 hours away to go to the Texas Roadhouse, closest thing we have :(

Pretty terrible list IMO.

As an example, the Hard 8 in DFW almost always makes it towards the top of most lists in the area.

It's all so subjective. I personally could make an argument that North Main BBQ in Euless should be on that list.

This. I love North Main.
