Texas names Charlie Strong coach

He is a Byron Leftwich type. I think he goes to Tennessee. Good prospect.
Would like to get him to Texas Tech which is probably the best program close to home.

He is not a Byron Leftwich. I have watched this kid play myself. I would say he is more Ryan Mallett. This kid has an arm but he also has some agility. He runs a 4.67 and can escape the pocket. He's definitely not Byron Leftwich. He needs work on his mechanics. He throws with too much of a side arm delivery. He needs to be over the top much more. He turns himself into a 6'2" QB because of his delivery and he really could help himself a lot if he worked on his motion. However, he does have excellent touch and very good placement on his deep balls. I can't imagine how strong his arm might be if he had a good motion. It would be unbelievable.

He talks about Florida and San Diego State a lot. He also talks about UNM so I don't know that Tennessee has the inside track. Tech is really not in the discussion from what I've heard.

Charlie is putting together a fairly impressive staff -- got the DL coach from Bama, and now the OL coach from Ok St; both are near the top in the country. Doing the right thing by building from the trenches.

There 88-91 but a little too old then for football not to mention busy. Bam Morris was a beast.

Texas has hired Les Koenning WR/QB Coach Mississippi State.


Also being reported that Charlie Strong will announce the Texas Coaching Staff at 5 pm today.

Koenning used to be A&M's offensive coordinator under Franchione. He wasn't all that good, unless that was Franchione's fault.
