According to NFL.com's Pat Kirwan, Texas S Earl Thomas' draft stock is "dropping slightly in the minds of some people" at the current owners meetings.

Based on this info, Kirwan has dropped Thomas from No. 10 overall (Jags) to No. 27 (Cowboys) in his latest mock draft. Kirwan now has Georgia Tech's Demaryius Thomas going to Jacksonville as the first wideout off the board. Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant falls all the way to the Jets at No. 29.

Let the Longhorn backlash begin.

If we draft Taylor Mays at 27 this place is going to be on fire.

If we draft Mays over Earl Thomas you may have to shut this place down for a week or two.

I don't think we are drafting either guy, unless it is in round 2. I said I didn't see Thomas as a round 1 pick recently and I got an earful. It was great.

This may be true, but take a look at this guy's Mocks and you'll see how out in left field he often is.

I have not seen one single mock that ever that had Earl Thomas going to Jax at 10. Most have had him in the 16-22 range all along and they have Jax taking McCalin or one the top DEs. Also Demaryius Thomas has little chance going to Jax either--at least not from what I've heard. Think of the guys they would have to pass on to do that. No way.

Thomas dropping to Dallas at 27 would be cool, though I generally balk at taking safties that early.:D But do that and then grab a lineman in Rd 2 and we're on our way to a nice draft.

Man, talk about a stroke of luck. I'd be just thrilled if we ended up with this guy at 27.

Assuming nobody at other positions got hurt, Thomas is the biggest impact player we can reasonably hope to get IMO. He gives this defense what it sorely lacks in the middle of the field. Even if he didnt start, he'd play extensively in the nickel/dime and has the ability to cover slot guys as well as flex out to a true CB position.

Eric Berry is the only Safety I consider a true 1st round prospect. I am not a fan of drafting Safeties in the 1st round because I think the position is evolving into more coverage skills similar to a Nickel CB than a run support role. I am not saying Thomas isn't talented. I just wouldn't take him in the 1st round if I could trade down and add picks instead.

Earl Thomas may have to shift to CB once he hits the pros because of issues about his tackling ability. In fact people like Kiper thinks he should make the move to CB in the NFL. His coverage skills and fluidity are that good.

With Thomas, it's like always having at least 3 really good cover corners, 4 if you count Scandrick in the nickel.

With this pass rush, I could see Thomas flourish as a cover safety.

eric berry solo tackles '07-52 and '08-44
earl thomas solo tackles '08-52 and '09-44

eric berry has 2 forced fumbles in 3 years earl thomas has 5 in 2 years. this stuff about him not being able to tackle just comes from him missing tackles in the championship game

No, he has horrible tackling technique that he displayed throughout his career.

If we draft Earl Thomas at #27 and any OL of note whatsoever is on the board, I'll be upset.

I thought our pass rush would make any safeties job that much easier.

But Ken Hamlin remains allergic to airborne passes, so I guess it isn't so.

Don't forget Earl Thomas was just a redshirt sophomore.

He is going to get bigger and stronger plus he is already a willing tackler.

His corner abilities gives you flexibilty on your roster too.
