Agree the win was ugly. It was almost painful to watch.

Lubbock has been a rough place for Texas and OU the last few seasons....I am just happy to get out with a win. Style points mean nothing when you are a road team in Lubbock...just get the W and get the heck out of that hell hole.

Gilbert is growing but he sure did look like a young qb out there. He needs to improve on throwing the ball to the receivers and make better decisions when the pocket collapses.

But I will take years of Jason Garrett before one more year of Greg Davis. He's just simply not a good coordinator. Also, the oline coach needs to be gone. Don't know how many years our oline can continue to suck like this. Haven't had a great oline since 1998.

100% agree. :)

Half the forum went to Texas University with Jordan Shipley.

You mean the "too slow to get separation in the NFL" Shipley??

The one that caught 5 passes for 82 yards in his pro debut??

Is that the Jordan Shipley to which you refer?? :D

what how did texas move down a rank?

Although they've won their first 3 games, they haven't really been impressive doing so... and that's going up against unranked teams...

Well, that's only half true, their defense is just fierce, but their offense isn't really clicking-- yet...

I think they're ranked about where they should be right now, but they need to improve offensively to be a legit BCS contender...

This isn't all on Gilbert... the WR's are killing him with drops/pop-ups...

Drops have been a problem this season for them...

I agree. Texas has not looked great in terms of playing an entire game. They clearly show glimpse of being a very good team but are not quite there yet. I do think the Texas defense has looked very good and is BCS caliber. To hold the Tech offense to as few of yards as they did was pretty impressive. Texas offense has some work to do but again I think they will continue to improve as they move forward and as they continue to learn.

The gauge for the Texas defense will always be their run defense though. It's been their weakness for the past few years. And they will certainly get tested vs. Nebraska, K State and OK State

I don't believe this is accurate. Texas Run D has been great the last few years. Maybe 2007 it was bad but the entire defense was average that year.

I am not a fan of Mike Leach at all....however, just imagine how sick the Longhorns would be if Leach were their OC instead of Greg Davis. With Brown's recruiting, Muschamp's D, and Leach's O, the Horns would be virtually unbeatable.

The stats are misleading though. A lot of their opponents have been pass-happy teams or just inferior teams in general but when they have matched up against decent to great running teams, they've been gashed. Some of the games, Texas still won of course...but they were grind-it-out games in which Colt usually bailed them out with his big play ability. I remember OK State in 08, Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, and of course Alabama in the championship game. Even the game Texas Tech won, they were having a great game on the ground.

If you want to hang with Texas, you have to be able to run the ball or else the defensive ends over the years like Orakpo, Kindle, Acho and Jeffcoat will have a field day rushing the passer, which is what they do best.

We will definitely see though...if Texas wants to win it all this year, the key will be stopping the run because of teams on the schedule and teams ahead of them in the rankings like Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, TCU...all very good running teams.

Check their record for the last 10-12 years, they already are pretty close to "virtually unbeatable"... :D

I know Bear....but they have tended to have a hiccup or two each year.....

I dont like Greg Davis....IMO, the offense succeeds cause of the superior athletes, not his game calling. If he used this system at a school like New Mexico, they would be struggling to score points.

Leach on the other hand, took a dreadful program and turned it into a very respectable program for the last decade or so. His offenses were extremely potent. He did it with leftovers.....players that Texas, OU, and some of the other schools didn't want. Just think how scary Tech could have been if they had a legit D.

Well the Horns have a legit D, a great D-Coordinator, a great Head Coach, and superior athletes on both sides of the ball. Add a great offensive mind like Leach into the mix and you have a team that could be averaging 50+ a game while only surrending 15 or less. They would put up 60+ on crap teams like Rice and Wyoming....not 34.

I know it will never happen, but it is an interesting scenario to think about.

Greg Davis is a great 'office' coach. He can design plays with the best of them, but he's not a tactician and sucks in the heat of battle when the pressure is on.

He's Bradley...not Patton.

I know. Little nervous since we are so young. Plus we have OU next week.
