- USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith, who played most of the 2010 campaign weighing 285-pounds, is up to 304lbs and hopes to tip the scales between 307-to-310lbs by the time he weighs in at the combine. Right now he’s projecting to complete 26-to30 reps on the bench, a solid number for a lineman with a 35-inch arm reach. The expectations are Smith will run a fast time in the forty at the combine and could breach the 4.80-second mark. This assumes he runs in Indianapolis. We can confirm that Smith hurt his knee late in the ‘10 season then had it scoped once the campaign ended. He then spent most of the month of January rehabbing the knee. Its’ not deemed serious but Smith may decide to wait for the USC pro-day, which is a month after the offensive lineman workout at the combine, to take part in the running and shuttles.

This could be the guy that shoots up the draft boards because of good combine/ workouts.

No offensive lineman has broke away from the pack, and established themselves as "The top guy".

The only knock on Smith has been his weight. If he gains the weight, and puts up the right numbers then he could be the guy to establish himself from the others.

Makes you wonder how he gained this weight so fast; Well one good thing about the combine is that they cannot lie about weight. And they see if its a spare tire or something of that sort. But if he can show 300+ at the combine and maintain if for USC's pro day then he probably does move into the top 15. Maybe top 10. None of the tackles have shown all that much so far.

Its no mystery how a 20 year old put on weight, hes still growing. I have no idea why anyone doubted he would fill out

Im fine w/ him shooting up the boards. Let him and the others go early and push Gabe Carimi down. Or even Anthony Castanzo, who Im less sure about........

ANyone that thinks just because you are 20 you will and can add weight is dreaming. Yes it usually happens but NOTHING is 100%. Some people physically mature earlier or later than others. It will be very interesting to see what he looks like at the combine. If he ways 300+ and is ripped then he is looking at top 10 or so. If he looks SOFT he may drop to 15+.

W/ a kid than genetically gifted it was pretty much a lock he would be able to put on weight. Its probably a combination of fat and muscle b/c he knows he needed to put on weight quickly. But a little fat on that insane body is hardly a bad thing. Rumor has it Jake Long was showing abs pre-draft.

with him being close to the minimum weight for a Tackle looking soft would not be a good thing.

A 20 year old potential franchise LT, in the mold of D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who could supplant Doug Free in the short run and replace the worst RT in the NFL (Colombo) immediately...

Tyron Smith is going to be put on a tee for Jerry Jones at # 9. It couldn't be set up any better for this franchise. Smith is exactly the type of player this franchise desperately needs to help cure an old and fading fast offensive line.

Smith is 20 years old, strong, plays with a wide base, and is very athletic. He is the new age LT. Dallas could and should (imo) take Smith at 9 and start the run on the OTs and make sure that they get the best OT in the draft.

Houck is from USC, so Smith wouldn't be a bad pre-retirement present. At least, he would have great talent to work with for a change.
