Thomas has really grown on me...I think he would be a great second rd choice.

The defense desperately needs someone who can make plays...he fits the bill.

He has grown on me too, but only if Elam is gone and we're taking safety in the 2nd round. I just think in the 1st round you draft BPA. After that, you start addressing needs a little bit more with your picks.

With all the talk centering around the high profile safeties, for some reason it seems people have forgotten about Phillip Thomas of Fresno State. The talented defensive back presently ranks as our #4 safety in the updated rankings. Thomas has a hectic schedule as he will be visiting the safety needy Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers, all good fits in round two.

not sure if already posted,

With the 18th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Jerrah selects:

Phillip Thomas, Free Safety, Fresno State.

Maybe in a trade down with San Fran @ 31?

I think both Church and Johnson can lay the wood.
QBs would be the ones fearing Thomas.

Johnson would be such a boost if he emerges as a good contributing player for the defense.

Elam can cover. Both are good players. I just think Elam is the most natural safety and would be the most ready from day 1.

OMG..........the love for Elam from you is almost illegal. Elam looks like a decent safety, but by no means is a game changer. That title goes to Vacarro, and Cyprien.......possibly Thomas.

lol at Vaccaro being a game changer. Then you say Cyprien. jeez. Yet neither guy changed a thing in college. cute. Elam is going to be a good one, just not for this team.

Rambo in the 3rd would suit me just fine.

Rambo anywhere after round 1 and I'd contemplate changing my (I'm no longer outwardly displaying my cowboy love) outlook for 2013. He's that good.

Elam is not a great coverage Safety. He spends a lot of his time in the box. When he is in coverage he is solid-good. He is a very aggressive tackler, but he has bad technique and tries to land a big blow rather than wrap up.He stands around a lot which is surprising. He doesn't give great effort all the time, it's really hot or cold. Sometimes he'll come up and land a huge hit, other times he just waits for the receiver to make the catch before coming up to make a play. I watch a ton of SEC games. I've seen probably every game he's played. This is my observation of him.

Rambo on the other hand, YES PLEASE! Very good in coverage, out produced every safety in the draft. He is actually a ball hawk. 16 ints, 6 FF's 3 tds, 18.3 yards per int return. I'm convinced he will be a multiple Pro-Bowl safety in the league.

I have no problem with Phillip Thomas though. I like him quite a bit too. Either would be very good in our new defensive scheme.

I'm really high on this guy as a player who will do well in the NFL. My bet is he'll be a better pick than Vacarro. And I'd take Thomas before Vacarro, too, although he's a much different player than Elam. I think Elam and Thomas would be a perfect duo. It'd make me forget all about Church and Johnson. But, yeah, I see a lot of potential in Elam--a whole lot actually.

I like Elam, not so much Thomas. I was quite disappointed after watching a few of his games

I'd like him over Vaccaro, but I want a safety that WRs fear. Thomas doesn't scare me. He'd make a good addition though.

I understand the desire, but with the rules changing having a Safety the WR's fear will no longer be possible - those safeties will no longer exist! You can't layout a WR anymore without a 15 yard flag. Anything above the waist gets called!

Just give me a ball hawk.

He's also good for making dumb plays. He will just hit you late or out of bounds and you just scratch your head and wonder, what the heck was he thinking?

So did dashon Gholston......and Ed reed.....and Bernard Pollard. It happens. Yet you guys were the same ones prob mad nobody came to Sean lees defense when golden tate baptized him. The hypocrisy around here is cute. Some of you want the dirty dog when you get hit in the mouth. When you realize you have a team of cats you sit back and take what's given. God forbid we want some guys willing to intimidate. Whatever

Just glad to see Dallas interested in drafting a safety and runningback this year... We need both sooooo bad, that it's not even funny

We need a running back. But it's not the biggest need. I have a little faith in Tanner. He's a rather strong runner.

And Thomas brings a lot in terms of the ball hawk people like. His highlight reel is pretty impressive.

Elam had a good game vs. LSU. The fumble occurred at 4:12 during that play...
