Thank You Chris Jones

We had very bad field position the first half. And against a very good defense on the road, this was hard to get anything going, but we killed drives with penalties also. Then we helped them on offense with more penalties.

But then Chris Jones started to get better field position with punts, as we got better filed position with their punter starting to have bad punts. This was big later in the game, as the field flipped, and they started getting backed up as we were in the first half.
The difference being, our offense is more able to get out of those if we don't hurt ourselves, than their offense is.

thanks for all the replies. Jones has improved each year and has become a real asset along with Bailey. Easy to miss what a difference he has been making.

People know we have a good offense and a mediocre defense but we don't get much credit for special teams. Special teams was more important back in the 90's and Jimmy always tried to win that aspect of the game.

While not as important in today's NFL, it still plays a big role in our success in 2016. Something I think Garrett took from Jimmy.

Minnesota has won several games this year on special teams alone. We won the special teams battle and it played a major role in why we were able to escape with a win.

Lets add Tyron Smith to the list for checking and putting on his butts a few times one of the vikings best pass rushers.

On the postgame I think they mentioned the punt differential was around 80 yards total. Now circumstances can add and subtract yards a great deal but it was clearly not the case in this game. That 80 or so yards was the difference by the old Parcells' yards system.

I think all his punts pinned them inside the 20, and Minn averaged -5 yards on returns.

The guy is a weapon.

Saw that. Also nice the refs finally realized it was a pancake and not holding....

He has steadily improved since we got here. I remember the rueing going on when we let McBriar go. Now Jones is putting our defense is great position and giving us at least the option of fake punts/field goals that we never had when McBriar was punting/holding.

Edit: Also, complete sidenote, but whenever we had the genius idea of having two kickers and a punter who couldn't hold very well, why didn't we ever have Buehler hold for Bailey?
