Troy Aikman presented a timely and poignant defense of Tony Romo during today's broadcast. More than just a defense, it was a subtle admonishment of both the media and the fans for their harsh and often unfair treatment of the Cowboys quarterback.

Major kudos to you, Mr. Aikman.

This was a big game and an impressive win. No one will be able to convince me otherwise. Earlier this week, I said that a nine point victory over the Falcons would thoroughly impress me. Therefore, I suppose a 16 point victory is immensely impressing.

Prior to the game, I ranked the Falcons as the fourth best team in the NFC and solidly in the tier of playoff contenders. With the Cowboys' victory today, they not only emerged into the tier of playoff contenders, they kicked in the door.

The Seattle game presents an excellent opportunity to start developing consistency.

What exactly did he say? I had to watch the game online and the best stream I could find had Danish announcers....

Being somewhat superstitious, I was afraid that Aikman was going to jinx Romo. Aikman kept saying how Romo has to play well for Dallas to have a chance and that he was indeed playing well. I kept thinking come on Tony, don't throw an interception while someone is finally giving you your props. Of course Romo played a mistake-free game. I love it.

On more the one occasion, Aikman stated there is a perception that Romo is having a poor season, and that perception is inaccurate. Aikman went on to comment about the over-scrutinized nature of the quarterback position in Dallas.

He basically told everyone to get off his jock.

He said he's a good QB and he's not having a bad season and that because he was good from the jump the fans and media placed unrealistic expectations on him.

I was right there with you. I kept shouting, "Shut up, Troy!"

Yea I liked Aikman today. He and Moose are both good analysts I think. I'm not sure if that has to do with my love for the Cowboys or what. But that opinion seems to be agreed upon by fans of other teams. But due to their past teams everyone thinks they d-rides the Cowboys. Its got to be hard for Moose and Troy. I can hear them sometimes trying to hide their Cowboy love and I think they do a good job of it but it sucks they have to do that to appease the idiot fans who think they put the Cowboys before their analyzing of the game.

It's amazing, really. Every QB that ever plays for Dallas will always be compared to Aikman and Staubach.... which isn't fair at all.

Still, I honestly believe that by the time Romo retires, he will be in the same conversations as those two.

But I've been told repeatedly Troy hates the Cowboys and all the media are anti-Dallas homers.

The other guy also said that Romo's winning percentage in his first two years as a starter is like the 4th best in NFL history.

According to the Fox Network, today marked Romo's record-setting 19th 300 yard passing game. He's not perfect by any stretch. He has some tendencies that are often his undoing.

However, Romo's positives far outweigh his negatives, in my opinion. It's amazing what decent pass protection -- especially from the running backs -- can do for a quarterback's efficiency. Aikman also remarked on the superb blitz pickup of the Cowboys' backs.

I still can't get over the Tony haters. Can you imagine how good his replacement would have to be?

Gruden really defended him a few weeks ago as well. He made a comment about how he cannot believe some the negative comments Romo was receiving and that he really likes Romo.

and thats the key I believe. If you give Romo time he is deadly. he can move around and avoid a sack etc but if he gets pass protection, its lights out.

I agree Troy did a great job of subtly sticking up for Romo. I thought he was right on the money as well.

His replacement would immediately have to be a top 10 NFL QB. He would also have to have a lot of the same skillset that Tony does because our o-line leaves a lot to be desired pretty often.

I think you are being generous. I truly believe he would have to be top 5 at a minimum and immediately produce playoff wins and Super Bowl appearances and victories.

Unrealistic expectations for sure.

Romo was running with the ball today, much more than he's done all season.

The runs didn't normally result in big yardage. But, 2nd and 8 is infinitely better than 2nd and 18.

I'd agree he's a top 5 QB in this league. :D I was just trying to not seem like too much of a homer.
