I seen somewhere and not sure if any posted this, but right now our ENTIRE starting defense are all draft picks/undrafted rookie free agents maybe besides one DT Woods and that depends on if you are going with Woods over Collins. That is absolutely insane. What is even more insane is this:

All our CBs are through the draft
All our DEs are also through the draft
5 out of 7 LBs are through the draft
3 out of 4 safteys on the roster are also drafted/unsigned rookie FA
2 out of 6 DT come from the draft with the other 4 basically cast offs that nobody else wanted. One of them elite "when" available in Irving and another in Woods who has made an impact in stopping the run up front. I have no problem crediting McClay with finding small gems since most of these guys are young players they evaluated as draft picks. On a side not I am happy we do not waste top 3 picks on a 2 down unstopper unlike a lot of members on here who would prefer that. Unless someone is elite, these guys can be found and are plug and play like an Antwan Woods.

Then you could look to the offensive side of the ball as well

All 3 QBs drafted/UFA rookie
RB Zeke and Rod Smith was a great find by McClay. Also had the balls to take the best player available in the draft in 2016. Not saying that Goff and Wentz aren't more important to an organization but we took the best player available and the best rated player of anyone in that draft.
OLine Next year if T Fred comes back and Connor bulks up our entire offensive line drafted/UFA rookie
TEs might be lacking since Witten left unexpectedly but again Drafted/UFA rookie
WRs 3 drafted and one a big trade which I didn't like the compensation but so far it has proven to be the right more. The lone strike out for McClay was the Hurns signing but we all knew it was a reach, the deal wasn't that bad and nobody is anywhere near perfect with FA signings, see Brian Cashman.

We can all sit here and credit Lawrence, LVE, Zeke, Amari, Kris Richard and others but without this guy drafting, trading and finding guys like Irving, Sua-Filo, Woods none of this would be possible. Also major props for holding off on the ET trade. Most likely he will be here next year anyways and if we did deal him for a 2019 2nd then there is no way Amari is here and I honestly believe that our record might be the other way around if that was the case.

Remember he is doing ALL OF THIS with a senile owner and his son Stephen (who I actually give credit as the middle man between McClays smarts and the old mans stupidity), a Head Coach who still needs a ton of seasoning and a TERRIBLE offensive coordinator. To deal with the likes of JJ, SJ, JG and SL and still be able to put that product on the field is absolutely amazing!

THANK YOU Will McClay!!!!

@Zekeats The entire NFL can see that this team has the best nickel defense in the NFL. This team dominates on all layers on defense.

My friends that are Eagles and Washington fans tell me daily that the Dallas Corners of Jones, Awuzi, Brown and Lewis are the top corners in the league. They also love Heath, which is weird because he gets bashed daily here. They constantly curse Heath, Jaylon and LVE for shutting down the run. Jaylon and "Wolf Hunter" are a step above the rest of the tandems in the league. The Cowboys have nailed the draft picks the past few seasons.

I was impressed at the Cowboys bringing viable O-Line back-ups. Looney looks like an all-pro. Fleming and Su'a-Filo stepped in and have been solid.

The Cooper trade has been a homerun. The man has mad skills.

Except for the last paragraph this is a good post

We have indeed been placed into an incredibly strong position thanks mostly to the yeoman's work of Mr. McClay. Perhaps one day Jerruh will legitimately recognize his work and make him GM.

It’s just a title. McClay doesn’t care about a title. By all means and accounts, he’s the de facto gm of our great franchise. And he’s compensated for it, handsomely.

True true but he deserves everything that goes along with his great work (including title validation). His peers in other organizations have it. He deserves it too.

McClay has done an outstanding job in the draft picks ... Its just miserable that Garrett is destroying the team's chances for a deep playoff run .

So much wasted talent .

Great post, he definitely deserves a lot of credit and so does the rest of the front office for listening to this man and picking the right players.

The only real disappointment on defense is Charlton

There was a time when some thought Demarcus Lawrence was a bust because he was often injured. I'm not saying Taco will ever become DLaw but give him some time to grow and get better - hopefully he surprises us!

That is why giving up a first was such a hard thing to do because you just know we would have drafted a great player.

I am also in the "give him some time" club...especially since they don't NEED him to be a dominant player at the moment with the success of the rest of the defense

@Risen Star said Mcclay was trash though.
He also says Wince is the second coming. Go figure.

And we are scoring 10 points a game with Coop.

? we averaged 20.0/game pre-cooper and were 3-4; we are averaging 21.4/game with him and went 4-1...granted, the D has done quite well, but the offense is having a little more ball control too

not sure what the 10/game means that you reference
