...that we had Drew Bledsoe this year.
I know, this position might not be well recieved by some, but watching the Giants game yesterday, I couldn't help thinking about some comments that had been made on here, and how the Giants performance in that game really spoke to some things people have been saying. Now, don't think that I'm going to draw some asinine comparison between the game we beat Carolina, and the Giants massacre, as some sort of measuring stick for our two teams. But there were some things you could see, that put some perspective on our situation in Dallas.
What we saw from Carolina was them totally shutting down Tiki. They took him out of the game, were allowing little to no gains every time he touched the ball. Sound familiar? That's what has been happening to the Cowboys all year long. Do you realize that we had two 100 yard rushing games all year long? And ranked 26th in yards per carry? Coughlin has recieved praise from many for going with Eli last year, and moving on with the future. And yes, it would be nice to have our QB of the future pegged, so that we fans could be set on one guy for the next 12 years, instead of rent-a-QBs. But look at how Eli, however young and inexperienced, performed when he was given little production in the running game, and faced consistent pressure from the opposing defenses front four. He fell flat on his face.
Granted, this is just one example. I'm sure this will be a good learning experience for Eli, although I don't know how they're going to correct his horrible accuracy problems, and I hope they never do, so he can continue to be overrated. But imagine how this team would have done with Henson, or Romo back there. We have no Tiki Barber, and our Oline is in tatters. We would be picking first overall, despite having a bunch of talent on defense. Drew Bledsoe had to face this all year, and really had us going in a great direction until all our offensive woes caught up with us, and they will, this is the NFL, opposing coaches are really smart. I just wanted to dole out a little kudos to DB, no matter how much he frustrates me with his incessant ball-patting, and horrid swing passes. Behind a patchwork (awful) offensive line, and with one of the least productive running games in the league, he took us to a 9-7 record. Big ups to Drew today.
