...that we had Drew Bledsoe this year.

I know, this position might not be well recieved by some, but watching the Giants game yesterday, I couldn't help thinking about some comments that had been made on here, and how the Giants performance in that game really spoke to some things people have been saying. Now, don't think that I'm going to draw some asinine comparison between the game we beat Carolina, and the Giants massacre, as some sort of measuring stick for our two teams. But there were some things you could see, that put some perspective on our situation in Dallas.

What we saw from Carolina was them totally shutting down Tiki. They took him out of the game, were allowing little to no gains every time he touched the ball. Sound familiar? That's what has been happening to the Cowboys all year long. Do you realize that we had two 100 yard rushing games all year long? And ranked 26th in yards per carry? Coughlin has recieved praise from many for going with Eli last year, and moving on with the future. And yes, it would be nice to have our QB of the future pegged, so that we fans could be set on one guy for the next 12 years, instead of rent-a-QBs. But look at how Eli, however young and inexperienced, performed when he was given little production in the running game, and faced consistent pressure from the opposing defenses front four. He fell flat on his face.

Granted, this is just one example. I'm sure this will be a good learning experience for Eli, although I don't know how they're going to correct his horrible accuracy problems, and I hope they never do, so he can continue to be overrated. But imagine how this team would have done with Henson, or Romo back there. We have no Tiki Barber, and our Oline is in tatters. We would be picking first overall, despite having a bunch of talent on defense. Drew Bledsoe had to face this all year, and really had us going in a great direction until all our offensive woes caught up with us, and they will, this is the NFL, opposing coaches are really smart. I just wanted to dole out a little kudos to DB, no matter how much he frustrates me with his incessant ball-patting, and horrid swing passes. Behind a patchwork (awful) offensive line, and with one of the least productive running games in the league, he took us to a 9-7 record. Big ups to Drew today.

Difference is that Bledsoe wont get any better.
Dont get me wrong, I dont think Eli is as good as advertised, however he has more upside and potential at this point than any of the other starting QBs in the NFCE.

He won't get any better as a player, I agree. But with a better team surrounding him (and that was kind of my point) he can play at a much higher level. Look how well he was doing when just the Oline played better. I mean, we still had zero running game, but he was the highest rated passer in the NFC, and like third in the league for the first half. That's impressive to me.

I agree. I think Manning has a bright future ahead of him. In a little over 1 full season as a starter he has shown great improvement and should continue to show improvement. As for Bledsoe he is a short term solution for the Cowboys until they can ansewer the question that we have at QB position.

Portis and Tomlison have great passer ratings too.

The one thing that will hurt or help Manning is that he will face, some of the best defenses in the league year after year within the division.

I dunno....I think he's a short term solution as long as Parcells is here. If he retired after next season and Bill stayed, I think he'd bring in another short term solution.

Which is impressive because they throw the ball so much. But, yeah, I can see the relevance of your statement......

If Eli's last name was not Manning, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

He is flat out over-rated.

Manning is not accurate and unless that changes he will never be all that.

I have seen Bill play a rookie QB in Bledsoe and switch QB's when he was in NY. You guys want to see the young QB well Bill sees them every day and I think he has a better ideal of where Henson and Romo currently are. He is not going to throw either one out there if he knows they are not up to the job. If either shows themself as the better option then I think they will play but not until they show they are ready.

Kind of off topic from the thread, but here are some interesting stats;

Stat Overview Passing SPLIT
CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2005 56 97 667 57.7 6.88 89 5 6 10 70.3
Career 356 586 3941 60.8 6.73 89 24 18 59 81.6

CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2005 294 557 3762 52.8 6.75 78 24 17 28 75.9
Career 389 754 4805 51.6 6.37 78 30 26 41 70.5

One is for Tim Rattay, and one is for Eli Manning. Interesting....

Maybe but then he has only played a little over 1 full season. No one doubted he was a 1st rd selection when he was drafted and that had nothing to do with his name it had to do with how he performed at Ol Miss.

ANyone that claims that his name has not influenced how people see him and evaluate him is dreaming.

Name will only get you so far, Manning had the numbers in college to be drafted in the 1st just like any QB in the college ranks. If anything his name only adds to the pressure of being a starting QB and I don't see added pressure as being a benefit to Eli. His name is what he will have to overcome not a crutch to fall back on.

The past means NOTHING. He is a different coach now because he is at the end of his career.

And yeah, he switched QB's when he brilliantly chose Scott Brunner over Phil Simms...ya know, the same Scott Brunner he saw in practice every day.

Sorry...but this ain't the same coach. I've probably seen him more than just about everyone here.

This is a guy who is trying to take the quick approach to winning because he's at the end of his career.

That is simply a fact.

I thought he started several games last year. I think he started almost half.

He has played at least 23 or 24 games, on a good, playoff caliber team.

He is not even a good bus driver yet, he killed them yesterday.
