Actually he was our only first rounder that year, sort of. We wasted the #1 overall pick on Steve Walsh by taking him the summer before we drafted Emmitt. Thank God New Orleans gave us a 1,2 and a 3 in return for Walsh to bail us out of that dissaster.

That Saints trade may be the worst in history. At least from the Saints perspective. Or the Saints trading everything they owned to get Ricky Williams. The Dallas trade to get Galloway may be the worst trade in franchise history, but there have been some worse in league history.

I hated the trade when it happened. But, if we had kept the pick we wouldn't have taken S. Alexander or any other RB with our #1. We still had Emmitt and he was still productive. Plus, no one knew Alexander was going to be a future NFL MVP, if so, he wouldn't have last til the 19th pick.

Bottomline, though, is that we were 6-10 in '97, 10-6 in '98 and 8-8 in '99. So over those three years prior to the trade we were a combined 24-24. There was really no way adding Galloway was going to take us from .500 to a major SB contender.

On top of that he was franchised which meant if we signed him he would've cost two #1 picks. But, other teams had been in that situation and traded for a player for less than what it would've taken to sign him, ie, a first and third rounder instead of the two #1's. But, Genius Jerrah wanted to make sure that he got HIS man and gave Seattle full asking price. Yet we are to believe not only Jerry is a competent GM, but also a shrewd business man. :lmao2:
