there would be a bunch of players I would take. that's bad evaluation on our part not knowing what we have. and then drafting a 25 year old rookie with foot problem

I would have take Torrence, Turner, Scruggs, Mims, steen and few others ahead of schoon.
Let's see how it plays out. He does look like a solid player.

People are saying TE wasnt a need because of Hendershot but he wouldn’t have even made the roster if Stephens didn’t get hurt.

the draft class itself has time to get better. Its the FO reaching for said players that annoys me. Mazi's skillset could have been gotten later in draft. Schoon was a luxury pick not a neccesity and he was a reach as well. Loved the 3rd round pick but unfortuntely we wont see the best of him till 2025

The best picks in 2023 draft were Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore and the UDFA's. At least they take the sting out of not drafting lineman earlier. it looks as if Bass may very well be a hit
They drafted Mazi in the 1st. He’s a lineman. You’re all over the place trying to back track.

I never said it was a home run. Only fools judge a draft class during their rookie season.
1 So when is the proper time to judge the merits of your draft class. 2 what or when was evaluation of diggs when he came into the league and was leading the league in intetceptions Did you think he was a star caliber player during the season or did you ho hum that also

You wait at least 3 years. Some will pan out and some won’t.

You just crapped on then for not drafting a high pick lineman. Go reread your post.
I crapped on them for reaching in round 1&2 and I stand by that .

I think I said mazi’s skillset could have been found later and we didn’t need to reach for schoon either

Someone brought to my attention that when looking at this draft you need to account for cooks and Gilmore and when doing that to me the draft improved from crappy to disappointing

Am I missing something ? Oh bass looking good also takes the sting out of them not selecting the Bergeron or Torrence

oh and their weak attempt at a rb leaves a lot to be desired

Overshown is a Dan Quinn LB so he might not be that special if we switch DCs. Schoonmaker seems like a big waste. If Mazi is a bust, then the best thing out of this draft might be some OL depth from Richards.

Not so sure about that. He showed some flashes as a rookie and there were some who cover the Cowboys that liked his potential better then Ferguson’s. A lot of fans are knocking Hendershot because he hasn’t had a good season.

The TE pick is the one that pisses me off the most. You reach for a tight end. There were impact players on the board when we reached for the tight end.
Even if we drafted LaPorta he would still most likely not be a part of our game plan. Just look at our history at TE. If we have 1 good TE the other one is not part of the game plan. Schultz and Ferguson just miraculously become good overnight when it was there time to play?

I think we could really surprise some teams with a 2 TE passing game, that we have not displayed all year. Regardless if it is Herndershot or Schoonmaker, it does not matter to me.

CD and Ferguson would obviously grab the attention of the defense. They would also think 80% of the time it would be a run play.

I would love to see Ferguson on a TE screen absolutely destroying CB's & Safeties.

I must say that I was happy about the Mazi pic at first. He was saying all the right things for sure. Dude doesn't look like he weighs close to 300 lbs and moves like a snail. We definitely didn't need to draft TE in the 2nd round, but that's the 2nd round curse other than Diggs and a very few others. IMO nothing special comes out of this draft except Overshon . End of the day its hit or miss. Will Mclay is still on point though....we never know how much the JJ's call the shots but this draft certainly feels like it had the JJ's finger prints on it. TE 2nd round? Need some O-line here. Anyway.....GO COWBOYS!!!!

Maybe we should have traded our second pick for Trey Lance and kept our 4th.

One of those red flags for me with Schoon was his age. We have the all-time later career player in Roger Staubach, but I would be interested in a stat on how draft picks do that are 25-26 and over that don't come from another league. Doesn't seem like many of them go on to All Pro careers. I'm thinking 'healthy' David LaFleur is the ceiling for Schoon. Hopefully I'm wrong.
I think the cowboys had a sound philosophy in drafting schoon. They have a team that can win now and pushed some chips in to get cooks and gilmore. Makes sense to grab a mature TE that can help the team win now. Problem is when watching draft highlights, it's a lot easier playing against 19 and 20 year olds instead of 25 year olds in the nfl. It's only one year so i wouldn't label him a bust, but I also have a hard time looking at him and seeing an ascending player.

Yes, he was a Covid draft pick - 6 years in college.

I'm real curious to see if Schoonmaker plays another 28 plays against the Packers this week.
