US plays Mexico for world cup qualifications I believe.

Spurs vs Liverpool

look to be the best matches this weekend.


Can't wait for USA vs Mexico later today. Although we've never won at Azteca, I think this year we can at least get a draw over there.

thought carew should have been sent off for diving and caldwell was unlucky to be sent off. in saying that our performance was pathetic and i couldn't at the moment talk about it without getting myself banned for foul language.

I thought that should have been a penalty the ref must have thought he got the ball in which case it should have been a corner.
Unless you guys beat Holland at home we might take 2nd place I still don't think we have a shot at getting to the world cup but if Olsen stays on as manager the Euro 2012 qualifiers should be interesting

lol, bigsoccer gets waaaaaay more traffic than cowboyszone. unfortunately, with a bunch of users, comes a lot of crap to read. There are a lot of informative stuff on bigsoccer, but you have to try to wade through all the crap to find it.

And, really disappointed with the tactics today. Bunkering down and hoping for a counter isn't going to cut it with these players. Mexico handily deserved the win. If we're going to play that style, at least wait a little before automatically booting it up field to Charlie Davies. At least try to string some p***es together, and if that doesn't work, THEN boot it up field.

but it really shouldnt be a surprise considering our record at the azteca.

it may have been the altitude, but Brian Ching has nothing to offer. I'd rather just see Stuart Holden replace Dempsey and put Dempsey as a striker.

just sent my mate an email and rather than typing out my thoughts on last nights game i thought it would be easier to just copy and paste that in here

still raging about last night. as for positives i thought commons looked better than most but i think it'd be stretching the truth to claim his performance outweighed the dross enough to be classed as a positive. i would say we were unlucky to an extent as i thought the ref was very inconsistant regarding his bookings. caldwell was in my opinion harshly dealt with, although both bookings were technically correct to the letter of the law realistically you see far worse challenges than both of them go without a booking so to be booked for both inside a minute was harsh. in saying that after having been booked for the first it was madness to put himself in that position by commiting the second. what made it harsher in my book, and harder to take from a scottish point of view, was that riise had two fouls which were equally as bad (the first one he never got booked for was the worst foul of the game) inside a couple of minutes shortly beforehand and yet only received the one yellow card. also the incident with carew i thought the referee bottled it completely after having just booked carew. there were only three possible decisions to make there - penalty norway, corner or a goal kick and send carew off for diving. how he gave a goal kick and no second booking is beyond me.

burley will undoubtedly and rightly take criticism but in fairness to him the game turned on the red card and subsequent goal from a man who given consistant refereeing wouldn't have been on the park. until that point we were controlling the game and if kenny miller had a left foot would have been leading one nil. that however is no excuse for the shambles of a performance from that point onwards. scott brown had only played around half an hour of football in the last 4 months or so so playing him was always going to be a gamble and i definately felt he struggled the longer the game went on. steven caldwell did us no favours when he was lucky not to be sent off in the first minute of the second half and had to be subbed as he was clearly on borrowed time and then berra getting injured but again these things happen in football and you need to find a way to deal with them, something we abjectly and humiliatingly failed to do last night.
the marking for the 2nd goal was abysmal, the 3rd little better and for all you can argue the 4th came from a soft free kick carew had already had one about a foot over the line that somehow the linesman managed to miss.

so in summary i do genuinely think that the game turned on a combination of stupidity from caldwell, poor refereeing and obviously a big slice of misfortune with the deflection but that our performance from that point onwards was so inept and lacking in inspiration and heart that we got nothing less than we deserved.

great result against everton but i think we'll get a result on tuesday. over the two legs i'm not so sure but i honestly think we can win at home. i cannot wait for the game though, the atmosphere is going to be incredible. the undertones are playing 45 mins before kickoff so i think i might sneak a hip flask in and go up early for that and see the atmosphere build.

gone all weekend so i missed all the matches. Now caught up with the MotD highlights. Great start to the season. CESC! 2 goals and 2 assists against the Toffees.
