CFZ The 2023 “Show Me” Cowboys

Let’s be honest with ourselves. No matter how good you believe the Cowboys roster and coaching staff is in 2023, the Cowboys are going to have to prove it to win over both fans and critics. The Cowboys have failed so often, and for so long, that no one - not even die hard Cowboys fans - is going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The Cowboys could run off 17 straight wins in the 2023 regular season, and EVERYONE, including every Cowboys fan, would still wonder if they can succeed in the playoffs. The Cowboys have EARNED that doubt as an organization. That is the burden of years of failure - even if this particular roster doesn’t deserve the blame for past failures.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won their very first Championship in the 1974 season, after 40 years of being losers. They only made the playoffs once in 39 years, prior to the 1972 season. The Rooney family were perennial losers for decades, tracing back 4 decades, in the NFL in 1933, and another 12 years in the IFL dating back to 1921. No one believed the Rooneys could win a championship in the early 1970’s - until they proved it in the 1974 Super Bowl.

The Cowboys have 3 decades of futility. Just like the Steelers of the early ‘70’s, no one is going to truly believe in the Cowboys until they prove they can win. Complaining about pundits who don’t buy into the Cowboys is a waste of emotion. They’ve earned the doubt.

Here is to hoping that 2023 is finally the year the Cowboys prove they can win.

I would have no problem with the losing as long as ownership, management and the players are all doing everything they possibly can to win. All you can do is try your best. No one has a right to ask for anything more. The problem is that does not happen with this team. Ownership and management is one in the same and they have repeatedly made decisions that are clearly not in the best interest of winning football games. They will make decisions all the time based on emotions and increasing brand exposure that have a negative impact on the field. This flows down to the players who clearly make business decisions both on and off the field that are also based on personal brand development not team development. This is encouraged. If the ownership. management and players are not all in why should I be?

Comparing the Dallas Cowboys to the Steelers shows the sad state of Arlington Jonesboys and the below Dallas Cowboys standards they accept or just given up to expect. Even during the decade of the Steelers 70's the Dallas Cowboys won more games, played in more playoffs, and went to more Super Bowls.

You are what you are. An average team that has not consistently won for 27 years except for the last 2 years, have not played in a NFC championship game in 27 years, and has the same GM, owner, and defacto head coach for all those years that won't fire himself as GM or hire a real Head Coach. But as an owner, he is a business phenomena.

But this is the NFL (National Football League) not the Dow Jones 30, and Win is the name of the game...

I didn't remotely suggest you have to "let people rent space in your head" or that you should take it so seriously it negatively impacts your life, or that you cannot or should not be happy and move on after the season.

In fact, I didn't suggest anything at all about how the season should affect a person's life or what kind of emotional investment they should have in the team.

All I suggested is the Cowboys can't be assumed to be a Super Bowl caliber team, and they have to show it to be considered as such

All I suggested is the Cowboys can't be assumed to be a Super Bowl caliber team, and they have to show it to be considered as such

I suppose these overly optimistic yahoos can believe whatever they want but most fans, critics and analysts will need to see proof come January they are indeed a Super Bowl caliber team.

Until then at best all they can be considered are playoff contenders not SB contenders. You actually have to have been to a SB recently or at least on the cusp ( in a championship game) to be considered more.
