The 94 Cowboys would have been the best if not for Jerry Jones

Probably didn’t help either that Aikman threw several picks in the first half and Barry Switzer had less self control than the players with the refs.

Or in Jerry Jones point of view - the Niners signed Deion Sanders.

No that’s lazy. Jimmy gave and demoted his life to that team. He molded it, he influenced it, he created it. He made them winners. He was the psychologist who made it all happen. For the owner to disrespect him the way he did, getting drunk and saying he could get anyone to coach that team was the ultimate disrespect. It’s not like Jimmy got drunk and came out and **** talked Jerry. It was 100% Jerry’s fault.
Jimmy quite he was not fired.

The extreme lack of discipline was evident.

While I agree egos broke up the dynasty, we don't know if the Cowboys would have won more Super Bowls. I have read multiple pieces indicating that Johnson was probably going to leave at some point anyway. He really never stayed at any of his coaching jobs-including college- any longer than five years. And he built the Cowboys before the salary cap. Johnson's record with the Miami Dolphins show that maybe Dallas would not have maintained their edge over the rest of the league had he stayed.

Having said this; I will agree that the 1994 Cowboys were the best team in the NFL and that they beat themselves in the NFC Championship at San Fran. I mean Steve Young completed just 13 of 29 passes for under 150 yards in that game. And yes, Dallas would have blown out the Chargers in Super Bowl 29. Easily.

If we want to point fingers at Jerry we can. But I lived through that era and looking back I think BOTH he and Jimmy were at fault. Two enormous egos and not enough credit to satisfy both. Hiring Barry Switzer was Jerry's biggest mistake. The team got fat, lazy, and rested on their laurels.

I wish they had kept Chan.

He got the most out of those teams.

The dynasty was running on fumes.

The team was underachieving by a huge amount with Chan. Notice that nobody else was interested in having him as head coach after he was fired for incompetence.
